Basically this.

Also, I don't see how Obama loses to any of the Republican field.

+100

I found out that keeping the guy who does my performance evaluations happy is so important.

A lot of people think that doing their job well is enough to make your boss happy (and in a perfect world it would be) but it's surprisingly not true.

I just slack off on everything unless it's for my boss and do exactly what he wants...

I used to get mad at school because understanding the material didn't give you a good grade, writing down what the teacher wanted would give you the good grade. I was hoping corporate America would be different. Lol, oh well.

imho it's just a case of adjusting to the player pool / tables

if you can't find enough fish in the mornings then play less tables, concentrate on note taking, hand reading, exploiting regs and so forth

Exactly. You have to do your job, that's a given. But not worth any bonus points. What most people don't realize is that anticipating your boss's needs and making his job easier ultimately makes your job easier.

What else matters, amirite?

Perfect training, imo.

I would last about two minutes in a corporate environment. My whole life I've either worked for myself or for a small business, neither of which allow you to get away with slacking off. People slacking off all around me, the politics of the photocopier, the guy who plays most golf and drinks most wine getting the promotion over the guy that works hard etc. Would drive me insane.

Don't hate the playa, hate the game.

I need to bet on this.....What are the best odds of I can get of Obama winning reelection?

Also all this work talk.

My major performance metric this year from my leadership. "Sam needs to empower his employees more and focus on delegating more work and projects and performing the tasks solely by himself."

Not sure how I worked that scam........I am told I will be REWARDED by making people do my work. W T F.

To expand, there are plenty of environments like this in corporate, but not all. I've never worked for a company where people were allowed to slack off. If this is happening, it's much more a reflection upon the leadership than anything else. It's important to have obtainable, measurable goals. When these are lacking, people are aimless. While I'm tongue-in-cheek about being a slacker, I happen to be really good at what I do. I don't tolerate slacking on my own part, and I especially don't tolerate it among the people who work for me.

I only hate the playa if he's making more $$ than me. Because then he's clearly an immoral bastard.

1:20 with a 10% vig.

And yeah, sounds a lot like my job.

+120?
02-15-2012 , 03:30 PM
wouldn't it be +105? Less 10 juice.

I'm a total line noob, so I could be incredibly wrong.

on another related note. My company is getting rid of all permanent offices. Now we are going to be just a bunch of Nomads turned loose on the professional world.

I wonder what the O/U is on how many times GMAN will actually come into the office a month?

I am thinking of putting it at 4.

Jesus, do we work for the same company?

We went to remote 2 years ago, with hotel offices/cubicles. I go in the office every Monday...org likes to have at least one manager on site every day since contractors are required to be in-office. My full team comes in every 2 weeks for team meetings, etc. If these dates weren't mandatory, I'd say none of us would come in more than once/month.

So yeah, I'll take the under.

I think all the companies are the same.

Next move will be to a 10-30 person gig.

We're hotel styled and I love it. I end up sitting in the same spot almost everyday but it's nice to have 0 clutter around the office. I should work from home more than I do, but I kind of like being in the office, the office banter is enjoyable

Too late to edit!

I was given a slight re-assigment a few weeks ago, since then my days have been flying by. I used to be 50% maintaining and running recurring reporting and 50% developing reporting and doing ad-hoc analysis...now I'm (eventually, transitioning work) 100% developing reporting and ad-hoc...

I like being busy at work, at first I was a little reluctant to give up some of my babies, but the possibility of creating new babies is exciting

People actually enjoy work?
02-15-2012 , 06:04 PM
I like developing new stuff....problem is my typical day lately is "hey you need to field questions about some decision corporate has decided in a vaccum, gave you no information or notice about, and you probably vehemently disagree with....now be a team player."

Mention VLOOKUP, INDEX, SUMIFS, or any intermediate excel functions and I'll get a chubby. I enjoy a decent portion of my job, the environment and co-workers are usually a big plus, it's a very flexible place to work so long as you're intelligent and get work done. Sometimes I get stuck with dreadful projects, but more often I'm let loose in my excel playground to crunch numbers til the cows come home. I'm fairly autonomous and, while I have managers, they are very respectful of me and are as laissez-faire as I've encountered in management.
