Anyone cook up Tilapia? Saw a sack of frozen, individually wrapped and sealed fillets and have never had or used them.

omfg yes, get it. My friend makes tilapia fish tacos all the time and there is rarely any mercy

i do tilapia tacos often. a handful of shredded lettuce, bit of sriacha, and a bit of lemon & pepper. good stuff, and also good for you.

I might have to try this.

I usually just dredge them in flour+salt+pepper and pan fry them in a little oil. You can flavor them with fresh lime/lemon juice afterwards.

we do em classic mex style, 2 corn tortillas underneath with raw onions and cilantro and lime on top

but there are few undesirable flavor permutations, yours has me excited

Opinions?

did you filter that or is it just straight aperture/lens work? If it's natural lighting, you picked a great night to take it, as the contrast of the piece with the sky is a really neat effect.

i used a . 6 graduated neutral density, but that's it

at first i thought the clouds would ruin it, but they reflected the lighting well

That's really cool then, cause the buildings in the background look amazing as well, and bring a nice touch to the rest of the picture.

I am on the right coast this week, and order the Three Philosophers....not a fan, although I do like the Rare Vos they make.

I do like Dog Fishhead though.

I've done fish tacos two ways:

1) make a beer batter with flour seasoned with cumin and pepper

2) marinate the fish in tequila, lemon, lime and orange with zest from all 3.

Looks like there is some distortion, see how the building and the trees are leaning?

Personally I'd try and get some tighter shots, maybe some close-ups and some with a shallow DOF so the background is less disturbing. Try some different angles too.

Just my $0.02

I am not a big fan of sweet beers so I don't like 3 Philosophers much but I do see what they are trying to do with the cherry lambec.

I prefer the dark Ommegang Abbey Ale.

Hennepin is my second from them

Witte is interesting too - has spices and orange peel used in the process.

Rare Vos is ok - I rarely go for red beers either

Explain more about the distortion, I'm not seeing it, I was on either 13 or 15 seconds so wind might have played some games with it

I love the way the trees give it a wicked look, makes the spoon seem triumphantly protruding from the sick environment, :-\

As far as a close-up, I wanted this one to turn out better than it did, I was pretty excited when I took it

spring:

I think the first photo is amazing.

As for the distortion, it is easy to see. The trees on the right are leaning toward the left. Draw a plumb line vertically through the photo and you will see what Pele is talking about.

It doesn't bother me, though. I think the photo is super cool.

Yeah, i see it now, it was shot at something around 12mm so that makes sense.

I'm thinking of putting it on my wall, if I do I'll probably do a few things first:
Crop 1/8 off of the right side
Crop a corresponding amount off the bottom
See if I can't brighten the bottom up, I don't use photoshop but there might be some adjustments I can make to make it more universally well lit

Thanks for the comments

Spring, you can fix the distortion in Lightroom or some other editing software. Lightroom even has automatic lens correction which might fix it with a single mouse click.

How about a B&W wide format? I think it looks cool, makes people guess what it is.

spring, Mrs. mpethy, who is a graphic artist, prefers the close up. She said, "Oh wow, it is a composition itself, not a photo of a sculpture."

I'll get lightroom tonight, i've been using SCARAB DARKROOM, which I suspect is some freeware version of lightroom. My friends are on me about getting lightroom and photoshop...maybe they're right!

Pele, i like your adjustments, I need to start taking my time when editing pictures, I'm stubborn about keeping images SOOC, but sometimes little adjustments like cropping/rotating can make a lot of difference.

Mpethy, your sigfig is "correct" (meaning we agree ), the close-up is more of an artistic piece than the traditional exposure.

I agree with Mrs Mpethy on that

Spring, you can download LR 4 BETA for free and play around with it until they release it.

Re the beer discussion I had some really nice cherry stout in a casino in downtown Vegas. Can't remember the name of it but it was down from an old railway carriage and has it's own microbrewery.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've got so much to learn but am happy with how I've progressed over the last 4 or 5 years
