Pavelski's such a gamer, so many players in the NHL are bitches when they get hit hard, Pavs just bounces up and keeps playing like nothing happened

This is definitely not true outside of Vancouver, and even in the city the fans support is pretty mediocre during the regular season.

Canadian radio (which I often had to listen to living just across the border on the good side) is obsessed with them and I've heard nothing but horror stories in trying to get tickets to games. I went down to Nashville last year for the playoff game and ran into a Canucks fan who said that it cost the same to fly out to Nashville and get a game ticket as to just get a Canucks home ticket. I understand that's in the playoffs, but the support seemed really good from just across the line from Vancouver.

I guess it's all relative. The radio coverage is pretty standard for Canadian cities (other than Ottawa), but I guess that's way different for American teams. Van is definitely one of the tougher tickets in the league to get, but it's not as bad as that. It's cheaper to fly to Phoenix/LA/Nashville but only compared to games against big name teams. Also you end up with way better seats in the states, but I paid 50 for ****ty seats to a Canucks/Wild game so you can definitely get tickets.

Also, my main disagreement was you just said "Canada". I've lived in a couple other cities in BC and fans there are casualfan.jpeg to a t. No support during the regular season but everyones got a jersey for playoffs.

I'm a Leafs fan and intense Canucks hater though, so I'm obv biased.

Yeah I shouldn't have just generalized all of Canada together. BC is the only province I've been to. Well, that and that wide swath of land that you have to drive through in order to get to Alaska.

Show your work because this is not true.

Attendance numbers show good support for the team. Every Canadian hockey team sells out pretty much every game.

I think it has a name, but no one is really sure what it's called.

I'm not debating that. I live here, I'm well aware they sell out every game.

I know a ****ton of Canucks fans of all ages, and the average fans level of support is way different between regular season and playoffs. The number of jerseys around the city, how many games they watch, the amount they're talked about, etc. are all way lower during the season.

Not really relevant other than for lols, but one canuck (self proclaimed) super fan once told me that he didn't know any players numbers cause "it's a pointless stat and there's no use memorizing it"

Again part of the problem is that both the NBA and NHL have these systems where they make their regular season barely matter. If you're going to have tons of games, you need to do like baseball and keep it at a minimal number of playoff spots in order to have the regular season actually be dramatic.

In the current system of both pro basketball and pro hockey, every good team gets in anyway...so the whole season is just a fight for an extra home game in a playoff series? I don't mean to downplay that as if having home court/home ice is insignificant, but it still amounts to being the least significant regular season in sports.

That was your original assertion. Pretty mediocre? That means they'd be similar to the Thrashers last year. They are far from that kind of support.

And, of course support goes up for the playoffs like any team.

Maybe we have different definitions of mediocre. I would call the thrashers support last year a good deal worse than mediocre.

Either way, ticket sales are not the only thing included in fan support. 16 cities average 99+% attendance a night, and I'm pretty sure there are varying levels of support for each team. Some are worse and I'd still call the Vancouver support in town during the season mediocre despite them selling out every game.

I mean I could be wrong cause I've only been to 3 other cities with teams, but that's my impression.

As an Illinois fan, I really should watch more of their games on BTN just for the possibility of him broadcasting one of the games.

I decided I'm rooting for the 49ers so that when they play next week, I can go get my car detailed and the place won't be a ****ing madhouse on the weekend cause everyone will be watching the game
01-14-2012 , 05:40 PM
root for the 49ers because **** the saints. i hate any team that gets tons of riggage in their favor
01-14-2012 , 06:10 PM
Jackets, are you too young to remember the last time the 49ers were good? Nobody in the entire ****ing world got more calls than them. Not another team in the NFL, not Michael Jordan, nobody. Nobody in the whole ****ing world.

If the reason to root on this has to do with officials, 49ers still basically owe penance for about 40 ****ing years for what went on in the Montana/Young years.

EDIT: In fact, I can remember specifically a 49er game where they went over via screwjob on a phantom roughing the passer call against the Saints that extended the game. Not a questionable call; a phantom call. It was the only thing that kept Steve Young from losing to ****ing Billy Joe Hobert. By all rights I hope the Saints go over undeservedly today via about 20 bad calls.
