One of my favorite one liners...

I am sorry... Airplane is WAY to deep for any youngster, specially one born a quarter century after the movie was made.

I still remember the first time I saw Airplane! My wife and I had gone to a movie theater to see Wholly Moses with Dudley Moore and Richard Pryor, and the theater was having a "sneak preview" of another movie first (which, iirc, we didn't even know what the title was). Of course, we absolutely died laughing while watching Airplane!, while the movie we had gone to see, Wholly Moses, was an absolute bomb. One of the worst movies I have ever seen.

And of course, we've loved Airplane! ever since. But even though it is an acknowledged classic, it wasn't until about ten or so years ago when I watched the 1950s movie Zero Hour on TCM (or some other movie channel showing old movies), that I realized exactly how brilliant Airplane! truly was. I had always thought that Airplane! was just a sendup of the Airport movies from the 1970s; I hadn't known that it was actually based on the melodramatic Zero Hour instead. And based on is an understatement; it's actually almost a shot-for-shot recreation with the same characters and the same dialogue (minus some of the more outrageous jokes. Even having Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the copilot was a nod to Zero Hour having Crazy Legs Hirsh as its copilot.

If you love Airplane! (and who doesn't), but you haven't seen Zero Hour, please seek it out. You'll gain a whole new appreciation for Airplane!.

Here's a great comparison video on the two movies mentioned above, Airplane vs Zero Hour:

Seen Airplane! 3 or 4 times but it's been a while. If I'm going to watch Zero Hour should I do it before or after a rewatch of Airplane!?

I was expecting a better movie career for Robert Hays after that hot start! I guess Julie Hagerty too, although she was excellent in Albert Brooks' masterpiece Lost in America.

Another thing I noticed: Jeff Bridges now gets discussed without even mentioning his dad was the great Lloyd Bridges.

Saw Parasite and loved it. Yeo-jeong Jo, who played Mrs Park, is gorgeous. Apparently she has some earlier movies that are more revealing.

Sea Hunt! Beau is okay too. I love The Fabulous Baker Boys.

On an unrelated note it looks like I picked a bad week to stop sniffing glue!

I love Daniel Craig's James Bond. Can't wait.

My favorite story about Airplane is when Lloyd Bridges was frustrated about the script and he didn't get what the directors wanted, and Robert Stack went to him and said, "Don't you get it, Lloyd? They want us to be us. That's the joke."

Anna & The Apocalypse, 2017

Saw this on amazon and gave it a go....what a charming, funny, disgusting zombie movie lol. A small town in Scotland gets overrun by zombies, and some high school friends band together to help save the day.

....and it's a musical.

Our lead, Emma Hart, merrily sings and dances down the block, with her ear buds in, oblivious to the zombies all around her. ******* high school bros fins their calling as zombie killers, wielding cricket bats and singing choreographed songs.

It's like Shaun Of The Dead, but with music.

Pretty damn great.

Marriage Story - This is streaming on Netflix, btw. Driver kills it, but I didn’t buy Scarlett in the first 1/4 or so of the movie. I felt like she was miscast at first, but she was great the rest of the movie. The movie itself is very good but it falls short of being great. Part of it may be due to a difficult subject matter. My guess is that critics and movie aficionados will appreciate this more than your average movie watcher like myself. I enjoyed it and I have no idea how the academy will be able to choose between Driver and Phoenix.
