You might also consider this Longines since you like the croc band on the Tag

http://www.authenticwatches.com/long...l26934783.html

I own this myself, and its a beautiful piece, and in the same price range. Speaking of which though, is this site legit, prices seem very low?

the all white #2 looks dressier than the sporty #1 black subs. i'd go #2 for the cleaner bezel/look, i like it as simple as possible.
thats the input im looking for thanks, any other opinions?

Don't buy a $2k watch because you like the band.
Buy the watch you want, then buy the band you want.

Yes, Authenticwatches is legit.
Also check Jomashop.

Hey, Im 20,in college, and looking to buy my first watch. Im sure this has been done a couple times already... Does anyone have any recommendations? im open minded to anything, budget is probably less than 3k, don't really want to spend more than that. So far, i like the metal links better, but could buy a nice looking watch with a strap also.

wind,

no disrespect or anything but it doesn't take that long to at least pretend to flip through this thread and look at pictures of watches before making your post.

Thinking of starting off my "FML I can see this is going to be an expensive hobby" watch collection with the following two to coincide with my dropping of $20k to revamp my wardrobe.

I think they will both go well with a lot of outfits which is basically why I chose them. IWC also seems to be make quality watches from what I can tell in this thread and this is about the max I want to spend per watch at the moment. Think the first one is ~$4.8k and the second ~$3.9k. Anything else I should look at that is sort of like this, but maybe other companies?

Edit: I actually might like this Spitfire better and it's $3.3k

Definitely going to have to go look at these all in person in the next week or two.

Also, it just seems odd to me that people prefer metal bands. I've always associated that with cheaper watches although that obviously isn't the case. To me they just seem sort of flashy and kind of tacky. Is there some reason to choose them over leather bands except for the looks?

I mean, I know this is a personal preference question, but I kind of would like to understand it a bit better.

Edit: Another contender at $5.5k

The Mark XVI from IWC is even cheaper and doesn't have the dumb(imo) UTC on it.

I'd personally go with the first or second. Definitely look at them in real life first.

Also, JLC Master compressor chrono is sick too.

This comes in at around 6k there are several different versions. this is a busier one, here's the URL to the one I think you'd like best. http://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/na/e...or-chronograph

another great piece of advise. Buy used. post the watch in question on timezone.com or watchuseek.com, both their forums have great sales sections and knowledgable members who will help make sure you don't get a counterfeit.(It's fairly unlikely anyways using common sense)

By buying used your depreciation costs become almost zero. I just sold a watch I bought used for 10% more than I paid for it. Recessiowned?

$7.7k new

I could deal with that.

I think I actually like the white face Portuguese better than the black.

Will look into getting them used.

I would go and have a look at the JLC as well I had a look at it and really liked it. Also IWC is a great make and you really can't go wrong w/ any of them. But personally I like the white face better also.

i like the portuguese out of your choices. i don't really like brown straps either. they suit old men i think.

i prefer straps, but some are $600 or more to replace. a bracelet is better if you're in a hot climate or to wear during the summer.

Hmmm, I live in Austin so it is clearly hot as **** in the summer. Do the leather straps just make your wrist feel hot? How often do straps need to be replaced?

Also, I was going to get both of those watches. It'd be nice to have a black and a brown strap watch as one might go slightly better with certain outfits than the other.

I'm not an old man, but I've hit my mid-20s and I kind of want to stop dressing like a kid. I think the brown straps will look fine, but I could be wrong. I'll be buying the watches after I buy my new clothes so I can see then.

What is the difference between buying from an authorized reseller and not? I see Authentic Watches isn't authorized and there are some other sites that aren't as well with even cheaper prices? Is it worth it to save the money? What are the other big non-authorized sites?

brown or black strap is just a personal preference really. if i you wear your watch everyday, even during summer when you're sweating, the strap might need replacing after a year. it depends on how active you are, where you wear it, the quality of the strap. constant sweat is the main thing that will ruin it. you can buy cheaper straps that aren't oem, but if you're going to indulge in a luxury watch i think it's silly not to buy the correct strap.

Look into trying out the white Porto for sure, it's a gorgeous watch and looks even better in person, but it wears huge because of the small bezel + white.
