Are orient watches marketed as their own brand or just as rolex knockoffs? Seems like the quality of watches itt has dropped off.

Orient is most definitely it's own brand.
They make quality low priced automatic watches with in house movements, mainly for the Asian market.
Their most popular watch is the Blue Mako (shown). I own the same watch in black, which doesn't look at all like a Rolex if you bother to look at the face. They also sell some really nice divers for over $1k. Only their cheapest diver looks like the Rolex.

The Mako is bigger than the Rolex, has the day as well as date, has different hands and Arabic numerals, doesn't have a cyclops, and has a big Orient logo in the middle of the dial.

I really like the style of the Big Bang but its way out of my price range.

Is there anything in the under $500 range thats similar in style (sharp edges, raised bezel, exposed screws) thats not a replica (doesn't have to be mechanical nor have chronograph) ?

I realize alot of the watches ITT are higher end but I thought this was a pretty good find for a $400 price tag (I got a deal on it which made the decision easy) Just wondering what you guys thought of it, most are going for the silver bulky looking watches like this and I thought the black was a little different and its still kinda "flashy" looking. Also the wavy lines on the face, are almost not noticeable on the actual watch, I think the flash from the camera in the pic really makes them stand out and look a little lame.

I like...I actually entered the thread about to ask what the watch that Michael Westen wears in burn notice (similar with the black band), but I think I like this more.

Anyone know the watch I'm talking about??

Debaufre makes Bell & Ross looking watches that you might like. They also make the best quality submariner homage out there. They use ETA auto or Unitas handwound movements and quality parts.

My father passed away and he had a Rolex GMT II and Omega Speedmaster that he both bought at a pawnshop that carried higher end watches. Anyways I want to keep these watches rather than sell them but I need to have some links taken out. If these watches were "hot" could I get in trouble if they show up on some registry that the watch repair person could check? I doubt the pawn shop would care where the watch came from and didn't do any due diligence (nor would my dad have kept a receipt from the shop) on their end.

Also, can I take these types of watches anywhere (say Sears or something) to get the links taken out? The Rolex retails for about 6KCDN but I'll wait while they do it. Are there special tools or something though that require me to take it to an authorized dealer?

Any place that services watches will do that for you, it'll only take a minute, and no they're not going to be snooping the serial or demanding proof of purchase or anything.

They're easy enough to do on your own with one of those little eyeglass screwdrivers too, just be careful not to scratch the bracelet. The Omega might have a slightly different system but will be doable too I'd imagine.

The hands kinda look like scissors which is cool. I think it'd be a nice casual watch that goes with most clothes.

some say big watches look like dinner plates, but those B&R style watches are like true pizza pans.

Most of the Debaufre's in that style are 44mm.
Too big for my girly little wrists, but they're fine on most guys.

I like that watch, and might buy one if they made it in a 41mm or smaller.

Kinda surprised we haven't had one B&R fan in either of the threads so far, seems like every other trendy midpriced ETA house has been accounted for with a voice.

Finally got around to checking their prices too, was expecting much worse to be honest, not bargain by any means but I was expecting something close to Hublot level ego prices the way people talk about them.

B&R is horribly overpriced imo and I have yet to see a watch of theirs that is remotely attractive to me.

That's my reason for not discussing them, not sure about anyone else

My girlfriend is looking to get a nice classy and timeless (ie, no diamonds and blind everywhere) watch around 5k-12k price range. Any ideas?

I'm a B&R fan and have owned one in the past. I thought it was a nice, well-made watch. Maybe a little over-priced, but I do like the distinctive watches. Definitely not for everyone, but that's probably what attracted me to them in the first place. I leave the Rolex homages to others

Don't really want to read the entire 9 pages of this thread.

Simple question....looking for the best Panerai rep out there. I figure I'll wait till I'm like 40 to buy the real thing as a gift to myself or something.

Just looking for a good rep right now, not sure where to buy it.

Thanks!
