No, they'll do it, and they're pretty forthcoming about it. When i got mine, the dealer actually brought it up, i didn't realise at the time they'll go that high though.

yea the porto def wont be 4.8k list at an AD. only at a grey market dealer are u gonna get that price i think. watch market is pretty down atm so maybe they will match a grey market dealer but id be pretty surprised.

also, whoever posted that omega. <3 i think one of those is going to be my next watch for sure.

The one in Dallas definitely sells JLC.

What some see as a lack of versatility, others see as a discreet statement. In general, matching your watch to the rest of your outfit is way overrated IMO.

I wear the Orange Monster with everything short of a suit. I've even worn it to a few business meetings, but it depends on who I'm meeting with (I'll wear it to technical meetings but I usually wear something more traditional to meetings with management (lately the SBQJ015 has been filling this role)).

In most situations, it's not really difficult to "pull it off". Most people are not going to notice your watch. Those that do will 100% have positive things to say about the monster.

All personal preference obviously. I love a loud ass diver with an outfit that doesn't really call for it, it can look great. But speaking for the matching neurotic, the OM gets shelved a good amount in the presence of equally loved pieces that match much better, it has still gotten a ton of compliments though.

this is exactly why i went with the black monster instead... but then again i cant afford more expensive pieces to go with it atm...

what are your thoughts on this?

i recently decided to go pro and this is like my first watch ever since middle school. i originally wanted the james bond seamaster cause i liked the orange but i don't see myself dropping ~2500 for a first watch. are there any other watches priced at $500-1500 with orange/blue/black combo thats good and sturdy?

Judging by the pics on the website of the store it looks like a place you'd buy a calculator watch. (didn't you say it was in an outlet mall?)

The other 3 locations, especially SA, looked much more official.

It's been brought to my attention (and somehow this escaped me) that spending more on watches than on my entire wardrobe might be a bit ******ed. I'm inclined to agree. So I'm going to look and see what kind of alternatives I can get for ~$500-$1,000.

Don't even really know where to look for stuff in that range though. And I already know it won't matter cause I'll go back to buying the $5k watches I want but at least I'll feel better about myself.

wat

we're talking discretionary spending here, unless you have specific wardrobe requirements for work (eg you have to wear suits every day to your law firm or something).

Someone might as well say is dumb to spend more on watches than on video games. It's your money, spend it on what you want to.

pvn,

I see what your saying but I also see how someone could associate jewelry and clothing. To be fair, it is kind of dumb if you are wearing $5-10k+ watches and dress like a slob.

Still, I likes me some nice watches so like I said I'm prob still getting the two I liked before. I kind of just want to do some due diligence and see what spending ~$1k gets me.

Well, on the one hand, watches don't have to be just "part of your wardrobe". The whole idea behind spending $$$$ on a watch is precisely that it's more than just another box to check off on your wardrobe list, like socks and underwear.

OTOH, there's still tons of great watches out there for $1k.

Any brands you can recommend that would point me in the right direction?

The first swiss brands that pop into my head are Oris and Glycine.

If you're up for japanese, there are some really nice Seikos in the $500-1k range.

I'm looking for a watch with good bang for the buck around $500. A chronograph with a fairly large face and a single tone metal band or a black band but a lot of straps will be hanging on by the last rung because my wrists are so big. I like seikos. I don't like citizens. I did see a couple of nice swiss armys today. Any thoughts on swiss army as far as quality?

Here's some sub-$1k watches I found that I like.

Oris Classic Date (37mm) - $725

Oris Artelier Small Second Date (40mm) - $775

Can't really find any sub-$1k brown leather with white/silver face that I like at the moment.

SNDA13? It's "fairly large" at 48mm.

It dwarfs the monster.

it's a fully ISO-rated dive watch. The pushers screw down and everything. Hard to beat (but not impossible) for $250.

Adam M. Honestly I think you should spend a bit more and buy the 1's u originally wanted. They r nice but there is a big difference b/w them and spending that bit extra will be worth it I assure u.

PS - not sayin these ones r not nice - just my 2 cents.

No decision has been made yet. I'm going to compile a list of things I like then go see them all in person. I'll decide there if the $5k watches are worth it to me or not. If I can't tell the huge difference holding them in my hand I don't think I can justify the cost. Esp when a $1k price tag lets me get a better variety.

That makes sense. But I would say that the 5k watches value isn't just found holding it in ur hand. When I got my first watch in that category after wearing it for a couple of days I was able to fully appreciate the value of it. But again they all seem like nice watches so do whatev u want and gl w/ ur brand new self
