Well would you look at that, and it's water resistant! You hear that, Nu Star?

complaining about a super complicated watch not being water resistant (whether it is or not) is like complaining about the off roading ability of a ferrari

No it's like complaining about a Ferrari not being water resistant.

That is a very nice looking watch.

I personally really really love this one from Steinhart (and its price too):

I love everything about how it looks (better than Bell & Ross imo ). Too bad that thing is monstrously huge (44mm with around 56-57mm lug to lug distance). I can pull off 44mm flieger watches on my rather delicate 165mm wrist, but I strongly suspect from some wristshots I have seen online that this one appears bigger on a wrist than a usual 44mm due to the case shape and also lugs protruding farther than normal

I am about to pull the trigger on this, unless one of you trusted regs (quickly) talks me out of it. http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...=5865047&rid=0

friend of mine is looking at a used PAM 104, looking for suggestions/options up to about 5k. used is acceptable. will primarily be worn in a business setting. hes anti rolex fwiw

just get the used PAM. I mean in that price range, not a lot of watches look like Panerais.

I mean I can suggest stuff like Anonimo but its not going to satisfy your friend most likely.

This. If you want a PAM, you want a PAM.

Yeah, it is. That's why I hesitated a lot and never bought that particular watch, although I get the urge to buy every time I see it somewhere on the net (e.g. at WUS). One day I may give in...

at least get him into a manual wind if he's gonna get a 44mm.. fully agree on your 000 (or 005) idea.

I feel like a Navitimer is a better option in a business setting than a PAM if he MUST have a big watch that works with a suit.

I agree with others that the PAM would be a good choice and can be acquired for $45-4700...only other watch I really like in that price range is an IWC Portuguese.

Went to a couple Longines' ADs today to look at the Master Collection Chronos and the Column Wheel Chrono

Long story short, the prices were a bit high, not all MC models were available, and they weren't willing to give big discounts if they had to order something specifically for me

But then one of the dealers suggested Longines Heritage 1954 Crono (see some pics below that I found on the net).

The price is about twice less than Column Wheel chrono (I understand, it's not quite the same in-house movement, but a 7750 nonetheless, which is quite good). I think it looks about as good as the new Column Wheel, has a retro look to it as a bonus, and generally seems to be a nice watch for under $1500 (haven't done the final bargaining yet, but i guess it will be somewhere around that)

So I am kinda seriously considering it. I think it will look mighty fine as both a dress watch and on casual occasions. Any thoughts?

Not quite as nice as some of the MC but a good watch for the price.

Why not take a look round some forums for something used so you can get what you want but for a better price?

It's 40mm. Perfect size IMO

From what I saw, the hands look more like black most of the time, they sometimes appear blue at various angles

I can afford looking only at the lower priced MCs, and most of those with complicated retrograde stuff going, etc. are out of my league, even if used. And frankly speaking, having tried and examined a few of them in person for quite a while today, they are indeed nice but (I don't even know how to put it) too shiny or something.

This one has a much simpler finish on the dial but with the same blued hands, and looks quite retro and understated in person, which adds some charm
