WCW superstar Kevin Greene.

He always had that long blonde hair. Funny how you remember one or two things about these old athletes, their trademark. Maybe a few other extras if they were really good.

Kevin Greene was a monster. Only two NFL players ever had more sacks than him.

I think of him as a Steeler mostly but I think he had been a Ram before. He had a big personality too, seemed like a good guy.

That's only if you define "ever" as from 1982 until now because that's when the NFL first started recognizing sacks as an official statistic. Kevin Greene would actually be fourth on the list if you include Deacon Jones. Still quite an accomplishment.

Bruce Smith 200
Reggie White 198
Deacon Jones 173.5
Kevin Greene 160

Deacon Jones and his Fearsome Foursome, now there was a cool front four name. Possibly only ever surpassed by the Purple People Eaters. Steel Curtain as a name wasn't bad, a little dry. Really it was like the whole Steeler team was the show, pretty much HoF top to bottom, not just the front four.

Couple of very good cricketers gone today. John Edrich, and Robin Jackman. Always a bit of a surprise when cricket players die of old age, they are notoriously prone to suicide shortly after the end of their sporting career. Mainly due to to pace of the game allowing them too much time to think about things I would imagine.

RIP Knucksie. pitched in a MLB game in 24 consecutive years.
as a fan i thoroughly enjoy knuckleball pitchers, especially their ability to float those balls for decades. as a former catcher i hate them.

I always thought that Phil Niekro looked a lot like Jerry Van Dyke. But in an odd brother-brother twist Phil was slightly better at baseball than his dark-haired brother Joe. Maybe more than slightly I guess, although Joe was a fine pitcher too.

I didn't realize Phil had a >>>>>> career than Joe. 95 WAR to 29.

I loved both of them. I loved Joe for being an Astro, and later for being thrown out of a game for having a nail file in his glove.

I remember that! Tries to toss the file out of his back pocket, thinking maybe the ump wouldn't notice.

Oddly enough, just before the pitch, the announcers mentioned that Tom Candiotti (another knuckleballer, IIRC) threw a one-hitter.

Seems obvious that the umps were lying in wait for him.

Sometimes, in this year of the pox, it's hard to remember that life is too good to be true. Here's some of Brother Phil. I think MLB should set the minimum retirement age for knuckleballers at 75.

Pierre Cardin, fashion designer. I have got a few Cardin items for sale on eBay at the moment, in his honour I have added “Last chance to buy!” to the listings, and upped the asking price a little.

Sometime around 1980 I was looking at some remaindered items at a department store. I found a suit in my size, and on the buttons of the vest and jacket were the initials "PC". I knew what they stood for -- Pickwick Club!!!

I was so happy until a girl at a bus stop told me the cold hard truth.
