I only know Meaney from Dr Katz where he was a real standout in what was usually the worst part of a great show.

A little crying. A little laughing. It's a wake.

Looks like he could be William Shatner's skinny brother.

Pete Burns died, the Dead or Alive singer. They had a few catchy hits including You Spin Me Round and this classic, which is pretty magnificent even now 3 decades later:

He looks like a reformed former wino ([in the photos from CNN obit]. Actually he looks remarkably like an old wino that used to hang about the rural store near our high school. We used to get him to buy us wine if we supplied him extra dollars to feed his need.

Not much more to add. Roast in Hell, Tom.

I'll confess to feeling somewhat rickrolled by the whole thing.

Heh, I love it. That's how they did things back in the 80s, baby.

Janet Reno, former U.S. Attorney General (and Miami State Attorney), dead at 78.

I guess her tangential connection to poker would be that, as Attorney General, she was in charge of the Department of Justice when the Unabomber prosecution took place.

I just saw a restoration of McCabe and Mrs. Miller last night, and was thinking how young Cohen sounded on that great sound track. Wherever he is, I hope he is still in the Holy Game of Poker. RIP

Wow, weird. I was watching a few renditions of Hallelujah over the past few days. Sheesh, sad day indeed.

Of course, the Christians are going to play that song on endless loop for a few days thinking it is a religious song, lol.

Think this is among the most well-sung version I've ever seen:

The lyrics are so amazing:

I heard there was a secret chord
that david played and it pleased the lord
but you don't really care for music, do you
well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth
the minor fall and the major lift
the baffled king composing hallelujah

hallelujah...

well your faith was strong but you needed proof
you saw her bathing on the roof
her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
she tied you to her kitchen chair
she broke your throne and she cut your hair
and from your lips she drew the hallelujah

hallelujah...

baby i've been here before
i've seen this room and i've walked this floor
i used to live alone before i knew you
i've seen your flag on the marble arch
but love is not a victory march
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

hallelujah...

well there was a time when you let me know
what's really going on below
but now you never show that to me do you
but remember when i moved in you
and the holy dove was moving too
and every breath we drew was hallelujah

well, maybe there's a god above
but all i've ever learned from love
was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
it's not a cry that you hear at night
it's not somebody who's seen the light
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

I wore out a cassette tape of his debut album Songs of Leonard Cohen as a college student in the mid-80s. Such strange songs. He was a total original.

Hallelujah is a great song, but I wouldn't put it in his top 10.

So, I guess one US celebrity decided to leave after finding out the results of the election.
And he saw it coming...at least we have the last release of his premontion: "You Want It Darker?"

"If you are the dealer, I'm out of the game"
