I'll wait for ones that are "official question" from now on, cuz that's how I roll

Probably more than 2%, but:

Based on this, he's about 30% not to have even been born before 1900.

I like the focusing on majors idea, but I don't understand the logic behind that question at all.

Take out people who don't fit the criteria, its a pretty logical question...

It looks like most of the guys who fit that and would be a yes to that question are one-off winners. Would he really ask about one of them?

I'd probably rather ask about a certain number of majors (not sure what the right number would be).

I'd say either ask about if no. of major wins is >1, or change the year of Major to like ~1920.
Or could ask about year of death, like ~1980-85.

As opposed to the one-off winners after 1900???

Official question: Has the person won at least 2 majors?
20 Questions Quote

42 major winners fit the criteria, assuming none of the USA nationals were born outside the USA.

18 of those won a major before 1900.

13 of the 42 have won more than 1 major.

I see what you're driving at, but I think we made the right call here.

The guy is likely to be famous and therefore have won more tournaments.

If we assume that the guy is famous enough to be the subject of a 20Q, we assume he won 1 major, right?

If so, I think he must be special. I like this guy:

First ever US Open winner. Never won (or even played in) another major.

Could be.

29 left from that list.

16 are Scottish, 11 are English (Including Horace Rawlins), 1 Northern Irish and 1 Australian.

Seems reasonable.

Ok, but who do you think for this 20Q?

Seems so unlikely to be a guy who never won a major.

Should we ask England vs. everything else?

Also, of those one-time winners if it matters:

17 British Open winners
11 US Open winners
1 US PGA winner

Maybe ask if he won the US Open, then guess Rawlins if yes.

Of the 11 left, only 4 were US Open winners.

Single major guys from England:

John Ball (did nothing else of note; wasn't even a pro)
Joe Lloyd (doesn't seem too special)
George Sargent (was president of PGA, so more likely than most)
Arther Havers (meh)
Cyril Walker (seemed to be mostly hated by his competitors)
Alf Perry (meh, but name is Alf)
Alf Padgham (WTF there's another Alf?)
Reg Whitcomb (won only major with +15)
Dick Burton (meh)
Max Faulkner (seemed to dress funny)

....and the aforementioned Horace Rawlins.

Seems like that question would bring a good answer either way.

So just go with has he won the US Open?

Did he ever win the US Open (official question)?

Heh, mine was an official question, but changed it after you x-posted with that list.
