Or is the purpose of this bill strictly to prevent US-based players from playing on sites (based on ISP)?
No, because that would not be "interstate or foreign commerce", as banned by the Wire Act. Interstate commerce is commerce taking place within the borders of two or more US states (or US possessions). Foreign commerce is commerce between a location within the US (or its possessions) and a location outside the US. In the case of a European site accepting players only from outside the US, the commerce is transacted only between locations that are located outside the US, even if the transmission crosses on the Internet through a US network.

It is my pet theory that Adelson's primary motivation is the destruction of one of his primary competitors - Caesars. The Caesars empire is crumbling under their excessive debt. Their way out is online gambling. If they can be prevented from expanding online gambling in the US, they will likely go out of business. They might go bankrupt on the b&m side anyway, but in the meantime build a new online empire. Adelson wants to stop them.

That's my fiddy cents.
Adelson is 81 ….. why can he not just retire already?…also who takes over once he goes away?

Because he doesn't want to retire and he will probably stay active until the day he dies or becomes incapacitated.

To sum up, the main issue with RAWA is that it would shut down US-licensed online poker sites while preventing any new ones. As that's the path for online poker in the US, shutting it down is game over.

If Adelson thinks it is okay to suppress people's freedom based on self proclaimed moral reasons, I wonder if he thinks it is okay to suppress anyone as long as you say you are doing it for moral reasons.

I agree with your point, but had to FYP to reflect what Adelson seems to believe.

Dictators never do.

Of course, in order to get to the top, he must have destroyed so many people's lives might have even killed several indirectly.

It's hard to get to the top unless you get rid of your competition...

Up to your interpretation. According to him he is protecting people who would gamble too much. Or w/e else he has people say for him.

This is extremely cynical. I mean, if you buy into the multiple universe theory, then obviously this is true.

However, if you buy into that theory, then it is likely that both you and I have each caused a similar number of deaths overall.

why don't vegas pros organize a protest outside Sands?

Hold Signs saying "Stop Trying To Ban Online Poker"

and

"Boycott Sands"

and

"**** You Adelson"

throw in some stuff like

"Stop buying Politicians"

and

"End The Hypocrisy"

and

"Stay out of Florida Politics Shelden"

and

"**** You Shelden Adelson"

The guy is one of the richest men in America...and is on Koch level of trying to buy power... I guarantee you that MSNBC and other liberal outlets will pick this story up and run with it if you have protestors on the ground...

Aren't there any billionaires out there as rich as adelson that would benefit from legalizing online gambling? Why aren't any of them buying politicians off? And would adelsons ban affect fantasy sports? With the recent explosion of sites like fanduel and draft kings, it should be known, and ESPN NBA making deals with them, it should be more clear.

I think the use of signs with expletives would be a mistake. Also, I don't think people would understand the signs.

I looked at the Forbes 400 list and there are no billionaires at Adelson's level or above that are heavily involved in gambling and would benefit from regulation.

Now the mafia would probably stand to lose a lot if it were regulated.

GOP leaders push off Adelson’s bid to outlaw online gambling
Quote:
Capitol Hill conservatives and libertarians were told Monday by the House Republican leadership that the Restore America’s Wire Act, which would ban online gambling, was not going to make it to the House floor in the lame duck session.

In what was going to be a battle of principles v. principals, GOP leaders decided it was too heavy a lift to get the bill throught the House Judiciary Committee and then onto the floor in the handful of actual business days left outside of the Thanksgiving and Christmas recesses.

The guy wants Obama to drop nuclear bombs and you think I'm being cynical? Give a me a break. He'd have no problems slitting you and your family's throat with a rusty knife if it were to benefit him in any way...

We should make copies of Paul's column and snail mail them to our people in Congress. I would love to hear what Rand Paul's reaction is.

"Damn it dad, you're making it hard between Shellie and me."

Wow, this is infuriating! I'm glad it seems to have been ineffective thus far, as there will be no hearing on Adelson's bill. Still, totally f'd up!

Wellington Web is really bad at reading for a teleprompter. He needs to stop moving his eyes back and forth so much.

I also like the message the youngsters are unable to resist cartoon characters and super heroes. It's amazing that more companies haven't used this irresistible marketing approach.

So is Chaffetz Adelsons secret weapon? Can't help but think, "not going to make it to the House floor in the lame duck session." just means it's been postponed because they don't need to secretly insert it anywhere since they'll have a good shot in 2015 with his puppet Chaffetz in charge.

It is pretty clear you don't follow Republican politics at all, which is fine.

But Rand Paul has already said he is against any type of poker prohibition. He is in the complete opposite wing of the Republican Party from Adelson on most issues. http://hotair.com/archives/2014/03/3...the-primaries/
