Anyone know if there is anyway to watch downloaded CR videos on a Mac? I know they are DRM protected and usually require Windows Media Player in Windows, but is there a media player for OSX that will play them?

I noticed odd behavior on the windows key as well, when I pressed it I would get a favorites prompt and also the "my music" folder would show up.

I uninstalled the software which was needed to get the favorites key to work, but the keys still do not function properly. If I have notepad open and hit the windows key, it types "091" and the cursor is placed between the 9 and the 1. When I hit the enter key, it will type an " ` " character, and sometimes will type 857. These seem to be the only keys having issues.

I am failing at finding help through google- and these issues are brand new. I use the keys often and they were fine just two days ago. Any help?
Bump?

Search through this forum- as this has been discussed several times. If those threads don't help you perhaps run some scans and post your logs in a new thread and hopefully one of the experts can walk you through it

my laptop has been annoyingly slow for a while now. it's a SONY VAIO bought 2+ years ago whose model number i can't remember off the top of my head and im not at home right now to check. i took a lot of music, files, etc. off of it about a month ago and put them onto an external HD but i think that has made it only marginally faster.

when i play poker i run a 24" screen off of it and it works fine but it certainly could be faster overall as a setup.

2 questions:

1) am a chump for running Norton as my antivirus? i've heard from some people that Norton itself takes up a lot of space and can slow things down so i've been thinking about switching to something else.
2) is trying to get a 2+ year old laptop to run fast while multitabling and running a separate screen a fools errand anyways? should i just suck it up and buy good tower instead? my plan has always been to do this eventually but maybe the time is now to make that move

thanks

1) Yes.
2) No. Most 2 year-old laptops should be able to 24-table Stars with HEM and HUD.

First, the i5 has a slight advantage when less or equal to 2 cores/4 threads are in use (it's marginal agreed but still). And running the usual set of poker apps (plus background apps like IM client, browser, and music player) is hardly enough to put 2 cores/4 threads on either i5-520M or i7-720qm under 100% load. You need more demanding workloads (such as video encoding, CAD, and other professional rendering) to see the i7 being considerably faster.

Second, and more importantly, the i7-720qm is well known to run quite a bit hotter than the i5-520m. That means bigger, bulkier laptops, more fan noise, etc.

Third, you gotta factor in that the i7 is more expensive than the i5 (it's more expensive by itself but it's considerably more expensive when considering the cost of the total system).

Wrong, you can't judge from a software produced in 2000 in 2010. Actually, Norton products are climbing to the performance top with current applications. Seriously. That's outdated.

It definitely does seem like Norton is improving, which is good and about damn time. But I personally still recommend Avira simply because it's been top notch for a long time.

I'm not sure how new versions of Norton do as far as system resource usage, but they're detection scores are definitely getting better. Avira is nice and light and always has been.

I had a relatively new version of norton but just deleted it and installed avira instead

comp is running quicker now so thanks for the advice

i have another question

I used to use a standard mouse that comes with a desktop computer but recently got a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 v. 2.0. it's a lot smoother and i like but when i play poker on FTP it's different than before. with the old mouse, if i had the cursor over the bet slider i could adjust my bet sizing with the mouse wheel. with this new one for some reason it doesn't do anything when i hover the mouse over the bet slider even though the wheel works fine for scrolling on web pages, pdfs, word files. any ideas on what to do? i tried to play around with the mouse settings on ftp one day but couldn't fix it

I call you Brutus from now on.

Btw, I give a damn about Norton, just saying it ain't as bad as it used to be, resource-wise.

I completely agree with you about it not being as bad as it used to be. That's not exactly an endorsement, though. I just can't think of a reason to use Norton over Avira. And don't make me use my **** sandwich analogy.

I'd love to hear about sammiches nearly as much as eating them or watching females preparing them.

i7 is a Quad Core and is imo not a good choice for a laptop since those 4 cores will eat up battery quickly. That i5 is a very good chip and definitely fast, though the i7 will best it in multi-threaded applications.

my computer was running really slow so I went to restart and as it was shutting down i got a message saying "the following program is preventing the computer from shutting down-AEM screen capture"

quick google brought me to this page
http://www.sophos.com/security/analy...32rbotaem.html

how worried should I be?

NLSoldier, you should assume the worst (and hope for the best) that any and all of your email, IM, poker site passwords have been compromised. Do you have an RSA for sites you play?

I wonder if we could add a section to the "Computer Security for Poker Players" thread about actions to take if you think your system has been compromised.

Regarding changing passwords etc, you must do this from a different computer that you are confident is safe. You should also watch the Password Policy vids in that thread.

Unfortunately higher profile players are going to be targeted more often than the rest of us So while everyone needs to take security seriously, this goes double for players like yourself.

Is it possible to save the tabs I have open in Firefox? I usually have two Firefoxes open ... one for "work" and another for everything else

There may be an addon that will allow you to do that but I dont think FF does it natively. Opera on the other hand does. Just save session and name it.

You might want to check for FF themes.
