Uh, how about to not get decimated in the SB when you have maaaaybe 4 more cracks at it?

If Peyton made $8m instead of $19m per year do you think his life is going to look any different?

That's the whole key. He already has more money than he will ever spend.

There are RARE occasions where I'd expect a player to do this fwiw. Manning and Brady are both ldo situations tho.
Let's be honest here, Denver lost a bunch of players to injury including their best offensive lineman and their 2 best defensive players. What was really going to change if he didn't get paid much? Who is Denver going to get to really game change vs Seattle?

wilson/sea played great and obviously won by a mile and deserved too, but peyton just completely stunk up the joint play after play after play. a lot of it was the defense ldo, but even on plays to open receivers or close enough to it, he was throwing ducks. dude just cant handle the big game.

I've seen some **** when it comes to bad coaches, but Fox really outdid himself (and everyone else) tonight. An unbelievable series of idiotic decisions on 3rd/4th.

Of course the defense is "Well DEN couldn't have won anyway huehuheuheueh" which is true but that doesn't mean it's OK to be a raging moron with no sense of arithmetic. Your average HS dropout who read Moneyball could have done a better job making punt decisions.

The Denver gameplan on offense was totally baffling. Two weeks to prepare and your entire plan is screens and short crossing routs against an insanely fast team that also covers super tight off the LOS?

Hey, if he wants to get his money than that's good for him. But he's throwing title equity down the drain for a few extra million that he likely won't ever spend.

A great accomplishment, no doubt. And he's worth every penny they're paying him. (and then some)

But clearly if Peyton takes $8MM/year instead of $19MM then the Broncos could put $11MM into other areas.

If you really don't think their title equity goes up in that scenario then I don't know what to tell you.

no excuse for that first play though and just completely handing them massive defensive confidence and general momentum to start the game. if that didn't take any butterflies there may have been out of wilsons stomach to start the game, nothing would

Srsly, was every 2nd/3rd down and 10+ yards a run play? Not sure if I'm wasted or if Fox is really that stupid.

Peyton is just trying to catch up to Elway's legacy. Needs one more Super Bowl win and loss each to do it.

Seattle plus 20 in TO's this year Denver 0. Super Bowl Seattle plus 4 Denver minus 4. We should have seen it coming right?
I've always thought about this. I think it's a combo of the offense has been elite all season and maybe gets complacent in the SB. I remember Tom Brady laughing when he was told Plaxico Burress predicted the Pats would score 17 points. He was like "LOL, really?" Then they went out and scored 14 points. There has to be a cockiness factor at some point. Also the defense knows there's no game after this so they go 100000% balls to the wall. Everyone's got a plan until they get punched in the mouth. And these offenses get punched in the mouth in the Superbowl.

A reminder- including today I believe Seattle gave up below 15 long (by however FO measures it) ATTEMPTS the whole season. Going downfield simply isn't an option. Without a mobile QB you're pretty screwed.

Is there someone they could have landed that would have single-handedly won this game for them? Of course not. It obviously doesn't work like that as you're pointing out.

But little edges here and there start to add up. Acting like $11MM wouldn't increase their title equity, however small, just seems like arguing for the sake of arguing.
