Seems like a strong marathon show anyway.

I liked it. Solid B+. The best part of the show is the throwaway humor that I'm sure I didn't catch all of. Seems to me that women would relate to it better than men so it had a chance to be that rare kind of good show that can count as quality time with the wife/gf which makes it very valuable.

Yeah I could see how women would like it more. I'd probably give it a C+.

First season: A-

I actually cared about some characters and I have like four emotions (but I suppose that's double the average user on this site).

There were strong jokes and the acting was excellent, esp. Schilling, Poussey, the Italian girl with the huge tits, Natasha Lyonne, Healy, Figueroa, bald lotion guy, and ....... The Wire's worst actor......... Nicky Sobotka!

Second season: C-

They correctly identified the best actors/characters and gave them more to do. Unfortunately that stuff was dumb, boring, or bad. Everything about the older black woman was bad. The pacing was lazy. Plotlines were forced and then written into contrivences. The political maneuverings were witless.

Many of the best scenes are where nothing happens (as is common on shows with strong actors e.g. Mad Men or The Sopranos). There's a million little women's prison anecdotes that could be worked into entertaining throwaway scenes. Just relax.

I think the show can definitely recover with some new blood in the writer's room. Or Jenji Kohan will **** it all up again.

The human elements of the characters are far more compelling than the in-show plot lines for sure. Tucky and Healy are vile people but I've felt genuine sympathy for each. Poussey... Actually all the ancillary black characters are incredibly sympathetic. Which made the focus on Vee that much more annoying. When the show does grey area it's really good. When it focuses black and white and gets tied down with silly plot it can be boring.

Watching an English speaking show with subtitles is wrong

I like it a lot. I'm a sucker for a good ensemble cast and that show has one of the best on TV right now imo.

I think Schilling is cute, but I agree that the other storylines are almost always more interesting than hers.

I didn't really hate the show, I mean I watched it all. It had several decent characters and seemed fairly original in its subject matter. I guess I just thought it was overrated. Taylor Schilling is hot though, I'll fight you on that.
