LMAO. You're on your phone while watching Deadwood? You're doing it wrong.

With Deadwood, I had to put the closed captioning on eventually even though I was paying full attention. I can't imagine trying to watch it in the background.

John Oliver was BRILLIANT tonight. Really missed him being on break last week.

Finished S2 of Orphan Black. Good acting, fairly crappy writing imo. Went downhill after S1 and is trying to do way too much. Kind of all over the place.

Veep is miles better than something like modern family or big bang theory.

Pretty much how I feel.

I can see myself dropping it mid season 3.

Dance scene from the last episode was elite. As a huge board game fanatic (thinking about game AI is kind of my job) I also loved the scene of the lab guys playing Runewars

Halt & Catch Fire stinks.

The characters are hollow hyperstocks, the writing is about a fifth as clever as it thinks it is, the plot is pointlessly meandering, and it's completely humorless. Everyone plays everything as heavy as possible and it's suffocating. The big scene-closing beats are so cringy I feel like I'm watching Reggie Miller throw it to commercial. It's a copy of a copy of a copy of a good show.

Does anybody in America actually watch Hell on Wheels?

The only benefit is rewatching it is better since you miss so much the first time around lol. But yeah this seems like a show where I need to pay attention.

I laugh out loud at that show on the reg. It reminds me a lot of Arrested Development (I guess part of that is the fact that the guy from AD is also on Veep but still)

Modern Family is amazing, up there with Scrubs and earlier seasons of HIMYM. They got super lucky that all of the child actors turned out to be very good.

yeah, Modern Family is funny very often, it's a little too...network tv (can't think of another way to say it), but it's pretty good.

What's everyone thinking of The Leftovers?

I'm still on the fence after 3 episodes, it has little bits and pieces of promise, but overall has been somewhat disappointing so far I'd say.

I did like how last night's ep focused in on one character and didn't just slather the whole episode in mystery. And the preview of "in the weeks ahead" was def enticing.

To me, The Leftovers just seems like it's going to burn its viewers with some ****ty plot development. I am def waiting until the seasons done to see if it is recommended viewing.

Terrific season premiere of Masters of Sex last night, definitely the best Sunday night show now that it's back

Yeah pretty sure this is true, but I don't care really. I like to be entertained and mysteries do that even if there's no payoff. I thought the 2nd ep was horrible. 1st one was pretty cool. 3rd one was weird but good.

The leftovers is very interesting to me. It doesn't have a physical protagonist. No Don Draper, no Walter White, no Tony Soprano. The protagonist isn't even the event that happened two years before; it's the fallout that happens in the days, weeks, years, decades after the event.

I like it because it doesn't let you observe some fictional protagonist make his way through the world, but forces you to follow the main protagonist in anyone's life- the fact that at any moment anyone around you could be taken away, and you yourself could be next.

I like it because it isn't 'woo lets strap in for this ride' or 'lets dissect how this show is an allegory for a decade past' but 'what would you do in this situation? How would you handle this differently?' I think it asks questions that only the individual viewer can answer.
