Manbearpig had the famous "my wife is cheating on me" thread (cliffs, "yes" but he stayed with her despite near-unanimous disapproval) which I assume is what Namath is referring to, but I'm not technically sure if manbearpuig is the same guy. Also, "cuckold" wasn't as popular of a phrase back then so he may just be charmingly befuddled.

No, our old conservative party was relatively centrist socially, but in the late-80s a right-wing populist Christian group broke away forming their own party to the right of the conservatives. That party became the more popular right-wing party and eventually the two right wing parties merged with the newer, more conservative populist faction holding power, sort of like what happened with the Republicans and the Tea Party. Our last PM, Stephen Harper, was about Bush-level conservative.

seems like he's already lost people on the left and the right, but only our Republicans hate him. he sort of had his own "deplorable" moment already when he had the audacity to suggest that we, as a society, need to ween ourselves off of fossil fuels at some unspecified point in the future. he is now the devil in our #rollincoal flyover provinces, just like dad!

like i was saying to MEb before, social conservatives don't have much of a pot to piss in these days (though Islamophobia is the new hotness!) policy-wise, we certainly have plenty of Republican types. but many of them still use the same pathetic crutches to campaign with, even though it doesn't result in anything. the old Conservative Party was more centrist, but they were cannibalized by our version of the Tea Party ~15 years ago.
