Flamini has until the end of the day to sign his new contract or he's offski!

Looks like Wengers gonna have to spend some money for once!

Such a ****ed up situation. We'll end up spending most of our transfer kitty to replace a player leaving on a free.

Not saying Flamini is irreplaceable or anything, but it will definitely cost us. Also Flamini has a good partnership with Cesc, and whoever comes in will probably need time forge such a partnership.

Then again I wouldn't be shocked to see Wenger bring back Merida and say "it's like a new signing", and then trust Denilson/Diaby to replace the Flamster.

There are certainly people out there as good as Flamini, but they will need a season to settle in.

Id like to see us bring Veloso from Sporting Lisbon in, but this would eat up a lot of whatever wengers budget is.

Other than that Loic Perrin (St Etienne) has been scouted many times by Gilles Grimandi, and theres been a lot of talk about a potential move for Lorik Cana (Marseilles) - these guys are both very good but we wouldnt see the best of them next season.

We are also in need of a complete overhaul defensively, as Toure & Gallas just cannot play together. Also there needs to be more focus on defensive coaching, we have kept 13 clean sheets this season (and somehow conceeded 2 at Derby) - both UTD and Chelsea have kept 20....thats the difference!

Bring back Mr Arsenal I say!

The boy is 20. And to be honest the jury is still out on him whether he is good enough or not, time is on his side though. If we want to challenge United and Chelsea in the league next season he can't be first choice. It's really that simple.

But he was first choice for 2006/7 wasn't he, or was Flamini injured?

Gilberto was first choice back then. Denilson started 13 games that season, 6 of them in the league cup only 4 in the league.

Flamini became a very good player this season and i'd really hate to see him go to juventus, but it looks like its going to happen.

Denilson is a very weak player imo, i haven't seen anything solid or special from him in every game he's played.

Diaby needs to get out of Arsenal, So does Senderos, and maybe even Eboue.

Defence : Sagna, Clichy and Gallas in the defence, we still need one decent CB. I'm not sure how Toure would fit into the mix, hes a good player though.

Midfield : Fabregas,Hleb,Rosicky and Walcott, We need 2 players imo, one CMF to replace flamini, a strong dominant defensive midfielder ( the mascherano-viera type), and a Wing because Walcott, Rosicky and Hleb ( if he doesn't leave) are both prone to injury. Silva is old and might want to leave arsenal also.

Attack : RVP was a very good finisher, now not so much, he can't continue a match without a hamstring injury. Ade is weird, hes either playing great football or just flat sucks ( inconsistent) and Bendtner and Eduardo both haven't really impressed me that much. So i probably would want to see a good striker join arsenal.

I think we do have a big budget ( probably the biggest if i'm not mistaken) so i just hope Wenger wakes up one morning and decides to do some shopping..

AC Milan seems his likely destination

I was under the impression that it was Juve, i haven't read about Milan anywhere yet but it is possible, my phrasing was off though, the emphasis should've been on i'd hate to see him leave arsenal, not the club he might go to.

Many seem to think this just because the board always says money is available. I'm not sure it is true though.

Of the near £70m of cash balances, £25m is unavailable as it is used to partially secure future repayments of the debt facilities and one also assumes some is set aside to meet the probable £20m of additional transfer fees payable on existing squad members.

This does however leave maybe £25m for the squad building (transfer plus wages)

Melchiades,

That ANR article is also a little misguided.

There was £70m cash reserves as of Nov 2007 (ie- Not at the moment) - the cash position of the club strengthens in the closing months of the season due to Broadcasting installments paid, a higher number of home games in the 2nd half of the season, season ticket renewals, and quite possibly a limited number of completions with the highbury square apartments. Quite conceivably with our prudent spending in the last 12 months there will be £100m available cash at May 31st.

Regarding £25 million needed for debt repayment insurance, this has been true, but may not be in the future, they were required before the risk of our bonds could be guaranteed, however with the turnover now at £200m+, £350m turnover (£100m+ profit) expected from property, strong cashflow & £150m+ of deferred income it is unlikely we will need this cash reserve in the future.

The 25m possibly needed for future payments is also more than likely a myth, these will be spread out over a few years, we dont need to keep hold of money now for future payments in 2009/2010 etc as we are making £1m profit per game - and we have £160 odd in deferren income for future accounts.

We certainly need a level of cash but there is also a £40m general purpose overdraft to call on if need be.

Realistically no one knows what is available, but id guarantee you Wenger could sign whoever he wants, however he doesnt like operating that way, unfortunately!

Remember that the average transfer these days is paid over 2-3 years, so if Wenger wanted to blow £80m, this would more than likely require £40m down, with £40m future payments which can come from future cash streams - including £100m profit to be made from Highbury square flat sales.

Ill leave you with a quote from Danny Fiszman, after last years financial results...

Quote:
We are in a very strong financial situation and if he [Arsene] wanted to spend £100m, he could. he decides whether a players fee and salary is worth it. It is his decision and his decision only.
And Arsene Wengers response to this statement..

Quote:
Can we say we are poor, because that perception helps me when buying players.

There are contingency plans in place for this kind of scenario. Thaksin may think he won't suffer another military coup but he's pushing it big time!

I saw McClaren speak this past year and he said that he first goes to a club because of the owner. I doubt this is the type of owner that he was talking about.
