St Louis offer sheeting Broberg and Holloway from the Oilers.

This is kind of a big deal - those are two pieces the Oilers expected to be able to plug in and be productive and cheap next year. Losing one or both is going to be a real issue, and keeping one or both is going to be a real problem with contract renewals for Draisaitl, Bouchard, and McDavid all on the agenda.

I wish offer sheets were more common

not sure either of those guys are that good, but i guess you kinda gotta bet on their age that they'll improve

Compensation due is a third-round pick for Holloway and a second-round pick for Broberg
and the compensation is lol so you kind of have to match. would be pretty insulting to lose them for basically nothing

I'm supposed to be getting jonesed up because football season is about to start. Which I am to an extent, but the real fun starts in less than 2 months!

Yeah the Oilers thought they would get them a lot cheaper . I am surprised at how little St Louis has to give up as well

I heard Broberg wanted 1.8M and STL ends up giving him over 4…that’s pretty sweet for him.

Part of the reason fans get so upset that other teams don't use offer sheets more especially against their main competition. I can't imagine why a team like Calgary wouldn't have done this - hurts a division rival, they have plenty of cap space, and adding to their prospects is the perfect thing for them to do, plus the fan base would absolutely love it.

Just reiterates how in a sport where you're expected to put the team above individual at all times, GMs are somehow exempt.

With Ceci traded, I expect they match on Broberg. With the trade for Podzolkin, I think we'll be saying goodbye to Holloway.

I hope they keep them both and put Kane on Long Term Injury Reserve . Damn that 12 million their paying Nurse this year kills them

The #habs have acquired Patrik Laine and a 2026 second-round pick from #CBJ for Jordan Harris.

I really like this deal given where the Habs are in the rebuild. No real risk, and the upside is pretty high.

among blue jackets who played a significant amount (1000+ minutes) over the last 3 seasons, your worst 3 by xg at 5v5:

bronze: pat lane
silver: erik gudbranson
gold aka tha woat:
Spoiler:
jake voracek

apparently he has retired, which makes sense

guessing laine will continue putting up like 20 goals in 50 games per season and being fairly **** overall. he's only 26 years old, but already kind of washed lol

would much rather have a guy like laine who is a well above average offensive player (with upside to be elite) that could potentially patch up his defensive shortcomings - at the very worst just hide him on the 3rd line and enjoy the power play production - his problem isnt' talent, it's that he's paid way too much for a guy who is a major liability on defense

yeah i'm guessing that's what the jets and cbj thought, and then the reality of the situation smacks you in the face. he legit seems like he gives zero ****s, and it's crippling. related: he's also hurt all the time, hasn't been healthy since like 2019

probably a net negative overall, making $8.7m/year lol. and the habs will probably suck again so i'm guessing the situation won't change much. but hey, if you believe maybe you can get good odds on o30 goals

their front office is extremely optimistic they can fix anyone after what they did with monahan

got monahan & his 6+ mil salary dump + 1st round pick
gave nothing

later they then traded monahan to get a 1st and 3rd round pick

just holding onto him for a year netted them 2 first round picks and a 3rd rounder

probably expecting they can pull it off again with Laine

perhaps guys getting salary dumped to the Habs is the wake up call they all need to fix their glaring problems - also kind of feels like Monahan was playing with a nagging injury that he never dealt with properly and only once he went to the Habs was he in a "sure take a season ending surgery no problem we suck anyway" which fixed things

would not be surprised if Laine has a surgery for something in the near future

Habs have the cap space. Don't expect them to be good this year. Maybe somehow fighting for 8th. Given his cap hit and that he has 2 years left, will be tough to flip him at deadline. In 2 years, ideally the Habs will be better. They might not even be sellers at the deadline.

yeah it's possible they could pump&dump him, or fix him, but with the young (probably bad) team they have i'd be worried that he might poison the well. with monahan i've never heard of him being a bad teammate or not caring or anything like that. glgl i guess

Taking Sergachev at 9 and then trading him for a French guy was a very big mistake.
