I mean we can argue all day about what constitutes top 5 and obv it's subjective but some reasons I think UGA is easy top 5:

Tied for 3rd with Alabama total players in NFL
Sole premier program in a state with the 4th largest number of NFL players
Good facilities and budget (admittedly UGA is lagging financially as of late probably due to non-performance)
Athens is a nice place to live (prox to major metro as well)
Complacent fan base (only 4 head coaches in last 50 years)

Like for example I don't consider Alabama a top job at all. At all.

Tuscaloosa is flaming ****-hole....nearest metro area is only slightly less of a ****hole
Fanbase demands national titles every year....if you think even Nick Saban is going to coast along with some middling years...lol
less natural recruiting advantages

LSU is pretty good except for you have to live in Baton Rouge and their fans are psychotic. (prolly why they love Les)

USC is a clear top 5 imo.

Proximity to major hub airport is good for Athens, but Birmingham has Southwest and people drive anyway. Tuscaloosa on I-20/I-59.

Tuscaloosa the city being meh as a whole has like no bearing on the discussion. It's about campus and its immediate surroundings, which are basically elite.

Bama has A+ brand, money, facilities, tradition, fan passion, etc.

It's also a nice central location for the current footprint of overflowing riches of kids who all grew up with Bama being the Yankees.

The good Yankees. And even when they are down, it is going to take like 30 consecutive years of being the bad Yankees to start eroding that, as long as the presumed coach can sell.

Lots of wrong in this list but A&M has like one top 5 AP finish since WW2. Lol at them being in the top 10.

I mean moving forward. Think they have more potential play than Baylor, TCU. Texas can definitely stock four, five programs

Yeah, I never understood this argument at all. Like Saban is going clubbin or something?

Then why is Nebraska on the list at all?

Put me in the camp of those who think Georgia is a better job than Alabama.

I thought that may illicit a pvn response. Didn't realize it would warrant a .gif though. lol.

I mean apparently I am weighting quality of life (which is obviously super subjective) much more highly than other peeps itt. Also, I don't place much value on the marginal utility of and extra million or two, especially if that comes with the near explicit agreement that you need to be 'rangin like every other year minimum.

So I want to work somewhere where I'm setup for success (basically where I get elite athletes before I get out of bed), expectations aren't asinine, nice quality of life, etc. Of course it goes without saying it's needs to be a major program so I can make mid 7 figures. So for me USC, UT, and UGA are all definitely top 5. UM would be an insta except I'm not sure if their fans aren't a little unrealistic, so I've got them as questionable top 5.

I've got UF as pretty much on par with UGA except I give a decent edge to quality of life for 1.) not being in the state of Florida 2.) proximity to a major metro(Jax doesn't count); and the expectations are higher in UF. If you don't win fast, you're out.

Bama was no prize between Stallings and Saban. Hell, Franchione jumped ship for A&M.

I'd make the top three Texas, tOSU, and USCw. Easier competition than the SEC, rich recruiting areas, and the dominant team in their area.

After them I'd put Florida, Georgia, and LSU with Alabama just behind. Florida St goes in here somewhere, too. Oklahoma and Michigan would round out the top ten.

LSU is weird. With fan base and the talent, it should have always a powerhouse. Yet it spent decades as a dumpster fire. They even hired away a Vandy coach who'd never had a winning season.

I can at least see this, it's a great place for the typical piker who just wants to clock in and keep his head down and get a paycheck. The fans don't really care too much and they'll keep you around as long as you're not actively sabotaging the program or flying the plane into the mountain or killing hobos or that kind of **** on the weekends.

I don't think OU is top 10 anymore. They don't produce much in state talent abd now there is too much competition for Texas recruits with aTm, Baylor, and TCU on the rise. I still think Miami is a top 10 job despite the facilities and lack of fan support. They are in a recruiting hotbed and have one of the biggest brands in football

I would evaluate the top jobs along these 4 criteria
- ability to pay the head coach and money for him to retain or hire key staff
- competition in local recruiting area
- competition in conference titles
- fan expectations

Based on that my top 5 (not in order) would be:
1. OSU - lots of in state talent with little recruiting competition, B1G money to pay staff, 8 free wins per year, fan expectations are lofty.

2. USC - premier program for large in-state talent, Pete Carroll was one time highest paid coach, every other team you play regularly is trying to get your leftovers in terms of talent, more reasonable fan expectations than other top 5s

3. Texas - premier program for large in-state talent, Strong is one of the highest paid coaches, your teams should be more talented than rest of Big12, fans seem reasonable.

4. Florida St. - big money, big talent state but competitive, LOL ACC, not sure about fans.

5. Florida - big money, big talent state. SEC is tough, not sure about fans.

I think by far the most underestimate factor in a coaching job is the reasonableness of the fan base. Coaching in a place where you MUST win national championships every year would be a ****ing beating.
