yea ur prolly right, just seems like the new guy wants his presidency to have a heavy emphasis on academics, research and the growth of the graduate programs. He wants to promote the shift of UofM culture towards those areas & less from the commercialization of athletics. But yea, ur probably right, saying that he would cut athletic spending in half was probably not what i read to the T.

LOL Mich's AD is 150% all about the commercialization of athletics.

Kirby, Foster, and Pruitt are pipe dreams. Morris has to be next up from the college ranks.
Wait this isn't for the Eastern Michigan job I'm pretty sure you can set your sights higher than Scott Frost, Rocky Seto, Nate Hackett, etc. Rocky Seto is straight up a Pete Carroll lacky that has never called a defense and who's "specialty" is the thing Pete coaches himself. At Michigan you don't hire some position coach in the NFL or a college coordinator like Frost. You either get a coordinator like Smart, or Morris or get a lower tier HC like Dino Babers imo.

Every president at a school like Michigan/USC/UCLA has to say this **** because his/her professors and researchers are already peeved that the five highest paid employees at the university are the AD, head football coach, his OC and DC, and then the head basketball coach. They say this academic stuff while realizing how important Michigan football/basketball are to their bottom line.

How are they important to the school's bottom line if the athletic department keeps all their own proceeds?

In this instance, the term "bottom line" means "endowment", and the answer is yeah, important.

Applications go up which obviously helps the bottom line

Plus when sports teams are good donors tend to donate more $ to the general fund. These benefits are way larger to the university than just a 5 million dollar transfer from the athletic department to the general fund.

So...Michigan and UCLA wouldn't get alumni contributions if their football teams weren't super good? I'm hearing that correctly?

No, but they get more when their teams are better.

Like it or not, a school like Butler wasn't on the radar at all for most HS kids until they went to a couple Final 4s. Bet their applications skyrocketed.

Just noticed ND's acceptance rate went from 27% to 22% after the 12-0 season (applications being due before bowls). Those appear to be the normal peak and valley of the acceptance rate.

Not every schools does it this way but if you see a Notre Dame shirt, the royalty went to the general fund even though 95% of the motivation is football.

At what point does Ga Tech want to go in a different direction and move on from Paul Johnson? They are only beating Ga Southern by five atm. Seems like they have been trending in the wrong direction in recent years.

Ga Tech went to the ACC championship game two years ago. They've gone to a bowl every year Johnson has been there. I'm not sure they could expect much more than that from another coach, and they could possibly end up with much worse (not saying he was a great coach, but Tennessee fired Fulmer two seasons off a division win and replaced him with Lane ****ing Kiffin; the rest is history).

Given the kind of school it is (engineering school, with its best years of football before the parents of today's recruits were born), I'm not sure Ga Tech should be the sort of place where your job is only secure if you compete for NCs.

And they played FSU fairly toughly. I think in the 4th qtr they were one score away from becoming the 7-6 ACC Champs.

Eastern Michigan hires up and coming d2 coaches and decent coordinators from the Midwest. They don't pick NFL coordinators or top tier college ones.

Snyder can coach my team anytime. Nobody has stopped Auburn's zone read play since Marshall figured out how to run it last year and he did it with a bunch of 2-star recruits, JUCO transfers and walk-ons. He can't kick the FGs unfortunately.
