There were rumours at one point that they wanted to do a 4 man tournament with GSP, Khabib, Nate and Conor so maybe GSP is serious about going to 155.

Also i do remember hearing that the UFC are weary about giving GSP another title fight where he could win and never defend but at the post fight press conference at the weekend Dana was asked about GSP vs Khabib and he was suprisingly open to it.

Yes, he said he is not interested. I'm not sure why he would be. Aside being at a serious disadvantage vs much larger fighters, the 155lb division is where the money is.

GSP said he would cut to 155.

Not just likely, but GSP has said it unequivocally that he just wants the legacy fight and he's bouncing.

[QUOTE=DodgerIrish;55414679] If it did play out, I assume GSP would be then willing to fight Conor for big $$$ tho./QUOTE]

I'm pretty much already over this GSP vs Khabib matchup but it seems the casuals would really like to see it. I'd much rather see Conor vs GSP. It would be a better fighter stylistically and likely from a competitive standpoint as well.

True, maybe because he has an idea it would sell really really well. It would actually shock me if the UFC wasn't willing to sacrifice its future and/or credibility at a shot for a big money fight. That's mostly what the UFC has done since WME bought it. Hell, they put the biggest star in the history of the UFC in a boxing match that he had no chance of winning.

On the flip side, Dana is notorious for using this sort of thing as a negotiating tool. IE if he's having problems signing Tony to the Khabib fight then he always has GSP as a backup plan.

Remember that Conor was a 145er.

I think GSP said he was looking for legacy fights, moreso than for the belt per se. Winning the 185 belt was a legacy fight, 155 belt would be too - but beating Conor is a legacy fight regardless (and would be the biggest fight they could make, bigger than a match with Khabib for either prbly).
During GSP last appearance on the Joe Rogan Podcast he said that since intermittent fasting he's leaner than ever and waking up about 180-183lbs, which means once he eats he's mid to high 180's & lean as hell. There's no way he makes 155, he has always been a big 170lber and in his first ever 185lb fight he looked pretty big as well. Khabib steps into the cage fully hydrated at 172lbs, GSP has 15lbs of muscle on him easily.

The only reason GSP flirted with the idea of making 155 was because he briefly trained with Sage Northcut who's bigger than he is and who was able to make 155 but Sage was also like 20-21 at the time.

I dont know if any fight has ever needed to be made more than Tony vs Khabib. I really hope it happens next.

I think Mcgregor should fight the winner of the Cowboy vs Gaethje tomorrow.

Dana: you want the title fight at MSG?

Colby: pay me

Dana: no

Dana: want to fight Woodley?

Colby will let us know when he wants to fight.

?????????

How does offering him Tyron Woodley solve anything? I’m not a Colby fan but god damn. Is this a case of Dana dana’ing?

Yeah the only way that makes any sense is if Dana is talking about when Woodley was champion and Colby wouldnt take the fight so they gave it to Usman.

Colby basically said he's not fighting for the title for the $ they were offering so they changed it to a non title fight vs Woodley for the same offer hahahahah.

Don't really blame Colby here.

Seems like UFC really does want to avoid a Conor/Rousey situation because they know rich people don't really fight in cages and they lose control.

Dana did say GSP/Khabib is a possibility atleast.

This is not a good thing. In most sports, athletes earn championships. Tony Ferguson is quite possibly the most deserving title contender in UFC history. Colby is the most deserving title contender in his division. Stipe was the most deserving title contender in his division (they tried to insert Brock). The UFC claims it always tries to match up the top contenders but that's not the case at all. BTW, that's one of many reasons some members of Congress want to regulate the sport.

In what seems to be a pretty disturbing trend, the UFC is now using these alternate title matchups as a negotiating tactics. Rather than negotiate in good faith with the contenders that deserve shots they'll give them a take it or leave it deal. If the fighter wants more then the UFC can just go to plan B. The UFC holds all the cards, in large part because the fan base is a bit clueless. This is the same set of fans that thought Conor McGregor actually had a legit shot of defeating Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match. If they'll buy that they'll buy anything.

Having watched the Till/Masvidal fight, Conor would knock Masvidal out in less than 90 seconds. Thats a terrible mismatch for Jorge but I understand he wants $

Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington for the 170 belt is a done deal for UFC 245 on Dec. 14 in Las Vegas, sources say. Story coming to
@espn
shortly.

UFC 245 will feature 3 title fights after all.

Would almost certainly think Usman/Cov goes on last over Max or Nunes fight.
