Conor is their biggest star/draw and ~ 2 months after becoming a 2 weight champ he has been stripped of one belt and they have organised. an interim title fight for the other one.

UFC just decided out of nowhere like 5 years ago to make all main events 5 rounds even if not title fights, im sure if they wanted to organise a non title non main event fight for 5 rounds then they would be free to do it. PPV already has a good title fight on it so just dont see the need for this fight to be for the interim belt.

The thought did cross my mind that in negotiations Conor might have been dodging Khabib/Ferguson so UFC just decided to make that fight for the interim belt to basically force Conor to fight the winner.

Also now that in the last week both Dana and Floyd offered terms for a fight, they might know behind the scenes that that fight is happening and Conor wont be fighting in the UFC for awhile.

I can understand making the Aldo vs Edgar fight for the interim belt but other than that they have gone a bit interim belt mad with Conor. The featherweight situation is somewhat understandable. Having an interim LW title barely 2 months after he won the belt is absurd. The only game UFC is play atm is devaluing their own belts. I mean that Holloway vs Pettis interim title fight was a total **** show. That 209 card is nice. It seems like 2 really big fights on a card is going to become the norm. I think they know it is tough to sell PPV's with just 1 title fight if a CM or Ronda isn't on it.
