I guess I am thinking that if you had Rickey in 2022, would he not still have free reign on the bases? Would it actually be +EV to contain him?
Rickey would still have free reign.
For most of baseball history stealing bases was encouraged and still nobody came close to him in ability to steal bases.
And with the new rule change next year of only being able to throw over twice,Rickey would have an absolute field day.

Alvarez is pretty damn good at hitting baseballs far with two guys on base.

Closest but clearest tag out I've ever seen. He's safe if he just has his fingers down.

Congrats txdome!

I get that Houston was a very unlikeable team to the national media, and fans of other teams. The hate obscures the fact that Houston was really good, top to bottom, hitting pitching and defense, all season long.

I drafted Cristian Javier when they weren’t sure he was a starter two years ago in my keeper league. I was very happy to see him throw that no- no I’m the World Series, he’s absolutely one of the best young pitchers in the game.

My number 1 most sports-hated athlete, (even more than Tom Brady), is Bryce Harper. Cam Newton is number 2, Brady’s 3.

It’s sports-hate, so it’s not over the line or personal to his life. I just derive great joy in rooting for him to fail.

I was getting nauseated with all these “16 year old on SI, such a journey, finally coming full circle!” puff piece interviews.

He still doesn’t have a ring, and that warms my heart. If he hadn’t signed a forever-contract, I’m sure he’d be looking to jump to a better opportunity. Then Philly could promptly win a rang without him just like the Nats.

…Because he’s an overrated drama queen candy ass punk, at every age of his professional career.

I get you're a Braves fan but calling Harper overrated is a sports talk radio take.

What does having a good team have to do with anything? They just won the crapshoot variance fest

They're both a really good team and just wont the crapshoot variance fest. Both can be true.

Do you actually think the Phillies are the best NL team/second best team in the majors?

The best team won (obviously), but it was a fun season for the Phillies. If the Phillies fast track a few pitchers (Painter, Abel, and McGarry), then they could be good for a while.

Wait, people think Harper is over rated? Even if he is... he is a perfect fit in Philly.
My images still don't paste properly...

Phillies offense did nothing after that HR explosion in Gm3. I think they got hot at the right time to even make the playoffs, but clearly one of the weaker overall lineups to make the postseason. I'd be surprised to see them back next year tbh.

This is a horrible take. They had many chances against Verlander.

Again, Houston was obviously the best team, but the Phillies put up a better fight than the Yankees.

Also, the two best Phillies pitchers were fairly awful.

Wheeler was awful his first start and great yesterday.
I'd maybe understand yanking him at 70 pitches if Alverez didn't murder lefties at an all time great level.

They lost 13 of 20 to end the year as they limped into the playoffs. Definitely got hot at the right time once they made it.

Alvarez with his sub .550 WS OPS while Harper is being called overrated? Ok.

So they were lucky to get into the playoffs with the horrible closing record? I guess you haven't looked at the managerial records or the injuries to Harper and Wheeler. JFC.

What does Alverez world series ops have to do with anything I said? And when did I call Harper overrated?
