I wonder what they would have done if the football game was in Philly also given the stadiums are right next to each other and share a parking lot

no way that could happen logistically. no way
it's already a freakin zoo down there when one of the teams is playing lol

plus the Texans game was a scheduled away game long before the Phils snuck into the post-season

Conventional wisdom:

After Gm1: Team of destiny, Phils in 6
After Gm2: Astros just too good, Stros in 6
After Gm3: Team of destiny, Phils in 6
After Gm4: Astros just too good, Stros in 6
After Gm5: ???

I wonder if I'm the only guy in the country that had the World Series game on full duration last night and didn't know it was a no-hitter. I was working on other things, on youtube etc, and had the game on sans volume. I turned the volume on and heard a 30 second or so Smoltz spiel, turned it back off, once it got 5-0 didn't pay much attention at all. After 8 my brother texted me and said no-no. So I watched and listened to the 9th.

So 2 no-hitters in 118 World Series. How does that compare to "expected" amount of no-hitters based on regular season projection, I wonder. I assume that is about 600 World Series games?

Yeah it's tough to see the stolen base ever becoming a huge part of the game like it was back in the day. I think Coleman stole over 100 bases his first 3 years in the league. These days lucky to see a guy reach 60. No one is ever catching Rickey unless the game itself radically changes back to a less HR/SO dominated game.

Triples are so much more fun to watch than a homer. Especially in the 1st with your lead off hitter and he scores.

Still more fun than a first pitch homer.

attempts at stolen bases, triples, or inside the park homers are fantastic baseball drama
might as well add in the sac fly attempt from third on a short fly ball

100% agree the nerds with strikeouts for homers made baseball lame.

Rickey scored a first inning run via lead-off homer in half a season's worth of games.

Nothing is over yet. Same thing was said at this point in 2019.

Is it all on the fact that different things are valued differently in the analytics era?

Are there guys out there now with the speed and the skill to steal a ton of bases?

I guess I am thinking that if you had Rickey in 2022, would he not still have free reign on the bases? Would it actually be +EV to contain him?
