Denver kicking a FG is pretty dumb here.

I liked Peyton's look of "no no don.... crap..." on that first half time out. Shades of Andrew Luck's "the play call is what?" from last week

Man I hope that Peyton wins the SB and then retires so we can see how valuable he is and how utterly useless Fox is.

What stupid was done:

JFK Possession 1: My defender is sagging way off me, I get a pass from my PG and hoist from 3. 3-0 JFK

JFK possession 2: my defender is again sagging way off me. I get a pass from the PG and hoist from 3. 6-0 JFK.

JFK possession 3: my defender who has to have an IQ that rivals only my coaches, is again sagging way off me. I hoist from 3, I miss. We get the offensive rebound and coach baker immediately calls a timeout. "You don't have to shoot every time you get the ball your know, there's other players on our team" ME: " I was wide open again" Baker: " take a seat"

I sit the rest of the first quarter (~5:45) and the first 5 minutes of the 2nd just so I know who the boss is.

We end up losing by 2pts. I kept my stats on the year for 3s and FTs. I ended up shooting 42% from 3 on the year. I guess our team FG % was like 35% or so.

Lets all LOL @ coach baker.
Highland Park was a legit scary school to play at. I remember shell casings on the sidewalk as we were walking from the bus to the gym.

Good to see Carroll have some balls on that 4th and 7. That conversion and TD won the game for the Seahawks. If they kick a FG there they'd only have been leading by 2 on the final 49ers drive and the niners would have kicked the FG for the win.

I'd say "in before the 'check the analytics' brigade praise Carroll for a brave decision because it worked" but I'm guessing I'm too late.

I laughed out loud at that Luck gif probably 15 times in a row. It's my fave gif of the whole season, unfortunately it kind of needs the context explained to be funny.

Hauschka is a top tier kicker, he isn't going anywhere. That's an incredible stand for him to take though. I think it's the right call (go for it over FG attempt) at that distance so I guess I applaud him, but I'm amazed that an NFL kicker in an NFCCG wouldn't just put on his game face and try the kick no matter what.

You guys can check my math on this, but looks like it's fairly close in terms of win probability.

Of course, I'm all in favor of going for it, but it seemed to be a high variance play here.

There's a difference between a defender refusing his assigned role as a play will happen vs a kicker refusing his role before a play starts. I'm sure you can see that.

Manning and Rodgers, among others, have waved off a head coach that's sending out the punting team several times before. A QB overriding his coach is a little different than a kicker but they're still both principal agents of a play, and they're overriding before the ball is snapped.

Wow didn't know that

Why was Samuel on him tho for real, shouldn't he be on one of their top WRs or was it some kind of trick defense something

First of all, you can just use the ANFLS fourth down calculator for this. The number it comes up with are broadly similar to yours but a little different (and it has going for it best). I assume this is because it's not making the assumption that the next set of downs are starting from the SF 28.

Secondly, the ANFLS calculator is horribly unreliable and its numbers are not to be trusted. Let's do a little sanity checking.

Numbers as per your post:

WP(Make FG) = 0.42
WP(Go for it, make 1st down at 28 yd line) = 0.45
WP(Score TD immediately) = 0.62

The WP of going for it and getting a first down is barely better than scoring a FG immediately. This implies an unreasonably high chance of turning the ball over without getting a FG, or an unreasonably low chance of scoring a TD, or both. Even if we adjust from the 28 to the 15 yard line, it only ups the WP to 0.48, which seems like madness considering a FG is a near certainty from there (barring a turnover or personal foul or something) and a TD is fairly likely.

Glad to see the stupid ass Fox timeout posted here.

Brian Burke agreed with every single 4th down decision in the game. The last 4th down attempt was freaking awesome.

But what the hell at that timeout? Fox has seemed to either turn a corner on 4th down stuff (or allowed Gase to go ahead and take control). But that timeout was just so amazingly awful.

I'm not sure whether I'm happy or disappointed that this thread hasn't exploded after the CCGs. Fox's 2Q timeout was the worst decision by far, but so rarely costs the team anything (teams so often just run a draw and then give up to end the half) I guess it's nbd.

I would agree with this if Fox were coaching against himself, but unfortunately...

1st and 10 at NE 20 (Shotgun) T.Brady pass incomplete short right to J.Edelman.
2nd and 10 at NE 20 (Shotgun) T.Brady pass incomplete deep middle to A.Dobson (D.R-Cromartie). PENALTY on DEN-S.Phillips, Defensive Offside, 5 yards, enforced at NE 20 - No Play.
2nd and 5 at NE 25 (Shotgun) T.Brady pass incomplete deep right to A.Collie.
3rd and 5 at NE 25 (Shotgun) S.Vereen up the middle to NE 30 for 5 yards (S.Phillips).
