For the xG deniers west ham a great example of why you should pay attention to data. They were in a relegation scrap last year but put up numbers like a mid table team. Granted you were right to be worried about losing rice, but to see them being completely fine this year isn't something that should be a surprise. To their credit they ended up buying really well after being on the brink of a disaster xfer window had they lost rice then bought mct+slab.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
Side note: had rice not gotten off to a great start at arsenal the banter would be unbearable with him leaving west ham and then doing "better" without him. Instead we have havertz banter!
No one thought West Ham were legitimate relegation candidates this season. You don't need xG to surmise that they're a mid-table team. Not to mention last years xG with a pretty different team wouldn't really translate to this years team anyway.
The only surprising thing about West Ham is they've actually spent the Rice money on good players and somehow resisted the urge to buy Harry McGuire
