I'm looking at the WI's team and thinking they have left out better batsmen than who they selected. Am I wrong?

I believe Hetmer was injured, and Bravo didn't want to visit because of covid.

WI have got through our 5 nightwatchmen. Now the real fun begins.

I would love to know why the hell we won the toss and batted first?

Conditions perfect for bowling in England, an untested top order, Anderson back...and we bat?!

That makes about as much sense as bowling first on an absolute road in 40 degree heat.

Jason Holder must have been laughing his ass off in his head on the way back to the changing rooms.

Must assume pitch is going to deteriorate like mad

Can't say it's a bad score until WI have batted, wouldn't back them to chase much more than we put on

So I don't want to accuse them of rampant bias but the umpiring against the West Indies was disgraceful on day 2. How many decisions were overturned? England got some other umpires around for test 2 (and good move with the additional review but not sure the home country should be entitled to it)?

****ing no ball

I hate this england team how can a bunch of such talented players play so consistently below the sum of their parts for like 6 years now. Everytime they prove they are great players capable of great things they equal it out by being goddamn abysmal half the time. ****ing pisses me off.

I think only one was a stinker (ball pitching outside leg lbw) which is arguably below par for a days test cricket.

The rest were marginal calls and you see why they were/weren't given.

I don't think the umpires were deliberately biased. We could have a long conversation about unconscious biases etc of course.

who are you including in your bunch of talented players?

i count like 3 bona fide above average test cricketers in this 11

There are plenty of talented players in England. Yes this line up was a little less experienced because of the lack of Root, Woakes and Broad but there's been plenty of talented cricketers over the last six years who have played for England and we've still been super inconsistent.

In this team I have Burns, Stokes, Anderson, Wood and Archer as established test match players, Pope who is very exciting, Buttler who is a top batsman who can't seem to hack it in the longest format and others like Sibley, Crawley and Bess finding their way in test cricket.

an established test match player is different than being talented or good

burns has an average of 33 which is okay for an opener but hardly great

buttler is a decent batsman but poor gloveman

wood has a bowling average of almost 32 and has hardly ever set the world on fire

it's archer, anderson, stokes and a bunch of journeymen/unproven youngsters

It won't be before too long until Roach gets replaced. You can't be less than 6 feet tall and bowling less than 80mph on flat English wickets. Only good thing is how tight he keeps it.

All this blocking is all well and good if you use it as a platform to kick on but everyone knows england will be all out for 280

If anyone does listen or has listened to Guerilla Cricket (which is clearly better than TMS), they're partnering with some random mobile app right now whereby they get some cash if you download it and use their GCRADIO signup code. Don't think you ever need to use it, so it seems pretty harmless to chuck some funds towards people spreading the gospel

England is not that good right now. Burns is not established lol, he's barely holding a place. Nobody even close to Cook's level has come through since he retired. Archer is mostly hype right now and inconsistent. Root and Stokes are pure class and Anderson is still amazing in English conditions but this is team aren't world beaters right now.
