Somebody is making money off the ads being there, so somebody has to be losing money. Who is losing money?

maybe I'm misreading but Rush seems to be trying to imply that they're not pulling the money they're just pulling the spots, hoping that doing so is a bigger advertisement than what the spots would have been.

I have a hard time believing this though.

The point of me posting the article is to show how Sleep Train, who has been an advertiser on Rush's show for 25 years, pulled their ads, criticized Rush, then days later changed their mind and wanted to reverse their decision. Rush basically said "F you, I don't need you" and declined to take them back. This tells me that this whole controversy is only going to help his show, not hurt it.

I admit it, I laughed.

I just finished the last season of Curb Your Enthusiasm with the Seinfeld reunion. George Costanza is probably the greatest sitcom character in the history of sitcoms in terms of consistent entertainment value.

Oh, and for the people telling me I'm ignorant about radio syndication:

Rush limbaugh is normally provided to affiliates for free in return for running several minutes of national advertisements provided by premier each hour. These ads are called barter spots. These spots are how Premier makes its money on the rush limbaugh radio show and other shows it syndicates.
Premier Networks just suspended all national spots for 2 weeks on the Limbaugh show. I have to assume (but could be wrong) that the local stations now get to use that time however they damned well please. More money in their pocket.

the bit I heard yesterday was now the local stations would use they cash paid for the Rush show, to hire a host for the timeslot. It's just a reversal on the way radio went on a national top 40 format, for example. they took away the personnel, and their decision making, to just be a rebroadcaster.

Just think of the new jobs, one Rush gets replaced by 100's of jocks and associated production people.

inso0, thx for taking the comment in the manner it was intended.

only as a stopgap until they can fire all those people again and get another national program all before terrestrial radio as a whole fails

Where is that clip even from? Can't be from his show, right?
03-13-2012 , 03:02 PM
Rush sounds desperate in that clip. He's reading some pre-written note begging people to come back to the show. I do like that he throws the word truth in there when he has been lying throughout this entire controversy. I'm getting excited that this might actually happen.

limbaugh as Fred Flintstone A++++
03-13-2012 , 03:05 PM
I assume it's from his radio show. He's not on TV anymore. Maybe he recorded a message and emailed the mp3 to all his affiliates and someone youtubed it? /shrug
03-13-2012 , 03:14 PM
I ask because if he's doing that during his show that would be extremely desperate. But if he sent that message to certain affiliates it's kinda meh imo.

I think Bill Maher may be the first celebrity victim of this scandal. He has taken a big hit for his anti-women rants.

There are tons of advertisers out there waiting to buy into Limbaugh's huge market share. He is safe. But Maher does not have that strong consumer penetration to protect him.

Maher is on HBO.

This puts the lie to Rush’s on-air protestations that there’s “nothing to worry about” and advertisers pulling their spots are having no effect on his show. If (when) affiliate stations start pulling the plug, he knows what that means – he’s relegated to broadcast Siberia like his buddy Glenn Beck. If “El Rushbo” gets dropped by major market stations, he’ll survive but he’ll have to tighten his belt. Rather than the $50 million (or whatever it is) that he takes down annually, he may have to get by on a mere $10 million. Maybe the great ladies over at the National Organization for Women – whom Rush affectionately calls “NAGS” - can hold a nationwide charity fundraiser for Rush. Limbaugh will need extra income to help pay for all those bottles of Viagra when he takes his trips down to the Dominican Republic.

Not necessarily "safe" Boa. For the first time since Rush went nationwide in 1988, Limbaugh may suddenly be facing some real competition. Mike Huckabee is set to launch his own nationally syndicated daily conservative radio talk program which will be in direct competition with Rush. Unlike Limbaugh, Huckabee knows how to "entertain" without putting his foot in his mouth. Advertisers and affiliate stations may feel more comfortable (and "safe") going with Mike Huckabee rather than the volatile (and unpredictable) Rush Limbaugh. Sandra Fluke (and Rush's out-of-control mouth) may turn out to be his Waterloo.

lol are you drunk? serious question

BTW Rush said today that Sandra Fluke is all part of an "Obama conspiracy" to take him down. You see, Obama made him call that woman a slut. It was all part of Obama's master plan.

"It's all about freedom, she said, echoing everyone who thinks there's nothing ironic about claiming that a country that's "free" allows people's bosses to dictate what medical care is available to them through insurance. First amendment. The constitution. Rights of religious people to practice the treasured tenets of their faiths, the tenets that dictate that religious people get to tell everyone who is not of faith how they're supposed to live, and the freedom to have that faith enforced by law."

Exactly my thoughts.

This OP from forum participant is probably a troll post, title is completely inaccurate. Is that a wild, hyperbolic accusation?
