I can't even bring myself to say "LOL" about this article b/c it's just sad.

Berkeley police chief assigns 10 officers to find son’s missing iPhone

Quote:
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that when Meehan's high-school son announced that his phone had been taken from his locker at Berkeley High School, several officers were dispatched to look for the phone, which was equipped with tracking software.
...
However, officers apparently did not actually file a report about the incident, which occurred in January, which Kusmiss described as "an oversight that came to our attention" after questions from the Chronicle.

Officers from the property crimes and drug task force departments were assigned to the missing phone case, according to Kusmiss. In addition, four detectives were paid overtime for two hours of the unsuccessful search.

For now, however, that whopping $931 billion for fiscal year 2013 will have to do. If our national security budget were its own economy, it would be the 19th largest in the world, roughly the size of Australia’s. Meanwhile, the country with the next largest military budget, China, spends a mere pittance by comparison. The most recent estimate puts China’s military funding at around $136 billion.
This doesn't take into account interest payments on money we've borrowed for defense spending, either.
The defense spending is jaw-dropping, but comparing US $931b to China $136b is rather disingenuous. For 2011, an apples to apples comparison done via SIPRI would be US $690b (or 4.8% GDP) to China $129b (or 2.1% GDP).

i'd rather have police doing things like this (even for the chief's son) than kicking in doors in the middle of the night or of underground poker games.

And the Facebook train wreck continues with an investigation into disclosure violations by Morgan Stanley. With the stock doing so horribly, damages could be huge in civil suits.
05-22-2012 , 07:33 PM
Im gonna choose to blame Facebook for that. Just cos **** them is all.

How does the spending look when measured per capita? How about per 1000 miles of perimeter?

Can't see Morgan get the lead on another IPO in this decade. Facebook got cheap should have just paid Goldman the moneyz.
