It occurred to me this morning that I feel like I know Trump on a personal level in a way that I have never known any president before Trump.

For me, to know him is to hate him, but I guess the ability to make people feel like they really know you is a political skill of sorts?

Schumer just can't cave on this. If he caves, he could go down as the worst minority leader in US history in either chamber. I don't even have to look up who that currently would be, it would just be that bad. Dems have all the leverage. Dems have the extreme advantage in the PR battle over blame. Dems in the Senate already passed the clean CR. Dems gain leverage in fewer than two weeks (and only six federal business days and probably 4 or 5 business days for most average Americans). There is just no reason for the Dems to cave on this. (Although I'm worried he will cave, and plenty of intelligent, left-leaning people I talk to also seem to think he will cave.)

Once we get to January 3, any change in the bill the House passed has to go back through a Democratic House. This situation only gets better for the Dems.

Trump ****ed up, bigly. His best move at this point may be to have the GOP House pass the clean CR on 1/2/19 and just take the egg on his face.

Dunno why they'd care. I can see a faction of them, probably a large faction, wanting workers to be subject to arrest and deportation, but what's a wall got to do with that? A wall will never be fully built and wouldn't work. And the boondoggle endless spending on the government construction contract is going to appeal to those Republicans. So, like which faction of Republicans wouldn't want a wall? The only thing I got is some Republicans in Texas, NM, AZ, NV or something who are weighing which position is better for winning elections.
