Bro. That's not what is impressive about FoldN. It was his 24hr+ posting bender in the Safe Space thread.

Anyone not meeting these criteria will be summarily ignored by me from now on.
You really need to stop talking about safe spaces.

That was an amazing tour de force performance which will not be duplicated, but I really think cracking the century mark would be an impressive milestone for politics.

Lord is the proud originator of this thread in the Probability forum. His logical reasoning is beyond contestation.

My understanding is that what Lord is saying about Bannon paying for legitimate research that he feeds to MSM journos to print is basically accurate.

I don't get it, how is this interesting or news, let alone some sort of masterstroke? Obviously every big think tank is funding research and pushing it to the media.

Yes, this much is inarguable and non-controversial. But Lord used dubious phrasing to imply that the "research" was "peer reviewed" rather than just being the churnings of a think tank, and that he was feeding academic publications, both journals and scholarly books, not just journalists in the MSM. And then the implication that this is noteworthy is pretty silly.
02-06-2017 , 02:45 PM
People really need to differentiate research journals from journalism. They are not related in any way.

That meme always makes me think of Bill Paxton in Aliens.

It took less than 24 hours from when I added outtagetme to my ignore list and when he was banned. Maybe I'll do this thread a solid and do the same for lord, since none of you people seem able to control yourselves around blatant trolls.

I can't be bothered with responding to trolls anymore. It's just not worth the effort.

Yes, this distinguishes the 'common law' countries (those which derive their laws from England's) from Continental code-based 'civil law' or 'Roman law' countries.

In common-law jurisdictions, such as, notably, the United States of America, the courts create law by case precedent: that is, how they interpret statute in actual usage. Only in civil-law jurisdictions is law determined by the fountainhead of the published code.

I do worry about being in a bubble sometimes so I actively try to find intelligent voices from the right, especially as I consider myself right on many financial issues.

The problem is I can't find them. Is there a William F. Buckley of today I am missing? Are there any intelligent voices supporting Trump?

There has to be some reasonable voices from the right. Can anyone help me find them?

If William F. Buckley is the standard you're setting, then I'm sure there are "intelligent" Trumpsters all over the place.

"Mr. Chomsky, I obviously can't win this debate with words, so how about if I punch you in the face and proclaim QED?" Weren't there dozens/hundreds of people at the Trump rallies with that exact same debate strategy?

Buckley was obviously intelligent and articulate whether you agreed with him or not.
02-06-2017 , 03:36 PM
The National Review sometimes has good articles in support of him. I was reading one the other day analyzing the Washington federal court decision against Trump. It was a pretty good analysis even though I disagreed with it. The writing there is like Pultizer prize stuff compared to Hannity/Blaze/Breitbart. Of course it was founded by Buckley so that's not surprising.

He did literally threaten to, or at least contemplate, punching both Chomsky and Gore Vidal in the face whenever he couldn't keep up.

Where's my daily Spice? Did he off himself after the SNL skit?

He's before my time, so maybe that's true. My only exposure to him was the interview/debate with Chomsky where he couldn't think of any counters to Chomsky's points except to threaten violence. To me that makes it highly unlikely that he was intelligent (regardless of his politics), but maybe I caught him on his dumbest day. (Edit: I didn't know he also did that with Gore Vidal, lol.)
