It's nuts. I went to HS 98-'02 and don't recall ever thinking about mass shootings. If there were shootings it was gang related. One shooter and one victim. Sorry for the "Back in my day.." post.

Probably because there wasn't as much mass shooting pornography back then. There's a real incentive to become immortalized with it today.

i graduated in 2003 and my school had a school shooting that year (7th grader) and i dont remember it being so uncommon, that was obviously after columbine in 1999. so it happened. i saw somewhere that they were dozens in the 60's and dozens in the 70's, (no cite to that though so ymmv) what is changing is news coverage.

Although I went to high school in Austin (graduated 1975), it was bordering on a fairly rural area. Kids brought guns to school all the time. You could see them in the gun racks of their pickups. Never saw one actually in the school, though. I'm old so my memory might be bad, but I cannot remember a single school shooting in the entire city during my junior high/high school years. Certainly not at my school.

Yet the response from gun rights advocates is to put armed guards in schools. Take a guess at how many armed security guards walk around schools packing heat in the UK.

Gun rights advocates and lawmakers need to know that every time a school shooting happens, the blood is on their hands as much as the killers themselves.

Today, the National Speeding Association released a statement about all these high-speed traffic deaths. They say we need to cut the brakes on cars and have more good guys in high speed cars to save us from the bad guys in high speed cars.
