Come on max, don't act like making coffee for hedge fund guys is that hard. Sure they throw a latte at you every once in a while, but no biggie.

I think the rudest thing I've seen in finance is somebody once referring to an office admin as a secretary.

Other than the whole wrecking the economy thing.

The golden age of tech compensation has passed. Generous stock options for all was kinda dumb unless you received grants.

the golden age of stock option packages has passed for sure, but compensation overall is doing fine if you have the chops - it's just much more heavily cash-weighted now.

Nice living no doubt but the chances of you making "real" money (for those in this talent group) like you can on the street seems unlikely. My perception anyway.

Yeah there won't be as many no-talent hacks hitting lotto paydays but on average the talent is probably doing better.

I was contacted by a recruiter for Beats by Dre to oversee their website a few years ago. I usually ignore them but I actually replied to this one. I don't remember what happened after, but there was never an interview or anything. I guess Apple is buying them or there are rumors as such. I wonder if I'd be right right now?

Don't know what kind of severance you would get if Apple did not pick you up. Maybe one or two months per year of service? The bonus plan could have change of control language in there too so maybe everybody in management gets double target.

I turned down a job at Dell in the mid-90's. Always kinda wondered how things might have turned out if I hadn't. I'm at least 52% certain I made the right decision.

I know my old Boeing friends that grew up in Seattle don't have to hear about less capable high school classmates retiring at 35 and didn't see the randomness of their success. Maybe someday boards will stop awarding top management excessive pay. It's possible I suppose.
I don't think it is possible for the non executive employee to be better off now the value of the grants were stunning. Forget the run up in prices the value of the options at award were dumb and the poor accounting rules allowed the companies to do it without enough scrutiny.

What do we think about just implementing a no talking rule in meetings?
05-16-2014 , 02:02 AM
Meetings would be a lot shorter with the no talking rule. Some people suck at running a meeting. Stop accepting their meeting requests imo.

I guess I'm at zero. Woot

I accept that chart and we should consider this issue closed without any further discussion. A chart has been created by a trained actuary. The presentation is clean and easily understood. Meeting adjourned.

Rich white person uses uber, then thinks it might be "libertarian," gets icky feelings and freaks out

http://pankisseskafka.com/2014/05/07...s-progressive/

Cliffnotes: uber and airbnb hurt poor people because rich people like them, and they don't create unnecessary make-work jobs. In other words, the author is basically arguing for the luddite social safety net.

Also I love the author's "I like this service and will continue using it but I hope the government make it illegal" stance, very brave.

I've read more coherent posts from steelhouse.

Would not have expected Paul D to be in third.

Steelhouse has written better posts than that article. Where do you find this crap PVN? Here is her educational background you are free to make your own judgement on the worth of humanities when analyzing economic issues via political philosophy. I vote "lol"

Yeah, going to every meeting you get invited to is a huge rookie mistake at work. I always make any meetings with more than 5 people and have a danger of going on forever lunch/breakfast meetings. People are less likely to show up, especially at lunch time, and if they do show up they are more likely to keep their pieholes shut. Now I just need a solution to the scourge of over ccing.
