It is pointless discussing this with people who don't understand that it is a political committee, with political objectives, quite capable of producing mumbo jumbo to obscure those objectives.

Its like having a committee composed of Nancy Pelosi, John Boehner, Steny Hoyer, Harry Reid, and Mitch McConnell.

They would pick someone for purely political purposes and then say they did it for some lofty purpose, and plenty of people would fall for their spin.

Obama deserves some sort of prize just for not being George Bush Jr.

I'm going to head out into the blogosphere and see what people think of this. But before I do, I just want to say that this is ridiculous. I mean, I'm all in favor of making wingnut heads explode, but the guy's been in office for slightly less than nine months. That's barely enough time to make a baby, let alone bring world peace. Shouldn't the luminaries in Oslo have waited until he had done something more significant than making nice with his former primary opponent before declaring him a man for the ages?

Oh well. Sometimes people do dumb things. At least we get to see wingnut heads explode.

UPDATE: OK, I've now spent a few minutes taking in reaction from all corners. Is there anyone who's defending this choice? Couldn't they have just given it to Bono instead? At least then maybe we'd get some nice music at the awards ceremony.

If Ron Paul were president instead and received the prize (having been nominated 2 weeks into his presidency), what would the reaction be on this forum?
10-09-2009 , 02:34 PM
you know I have been thinking about this.

How must Geogre Bush feel about this, you were so bad/hated that the guy after you is being given awards he doesn't deserve because he's not you.

he must feel so small.
10-09-2009 , 02:35 PM
i dont think anyone is criticizing obama in this thread. We are criticizing the committee

Obama himself admits he doesnt deserve it

I'd be really confused, but I think he'd be more deserving of it than Obama. Ron Paul has spent his entire political career trying to get people to follow the Constitution to protect individual liberty. He also doesn't support war.

Well, i don't really care about this.
For this to work on him, he'd have to be the most useless world leader in the history of ever.

Can we assume he would have ordered the withdrawal from Iraq and Afganistan on the first day in office?

80%+ of the world's population would be a better choice than Barrack Obama. If you want a person with a name in politics, how about Ron Paul? He doesn't really deserve it, but he deserves it 100x more than Barrack Obama.

I cant agree with this statement. I like Obama and all but I think it's pretty clear he didn't deserve this award, and he hasn't accomplished much of anything yet. You are saying that the vast majority of the people off the street would be worthy of the award more...but not 20% of them? That is much more wtf then obama getting the award.

Then we he accepts it, they get to chatter amongst themselves about his ego and arrogance for having the gall to accept it.
What? Refusing the prize is the only thing a man with any integrity could possibly do here.
10-09-2009 , 02:56 PM
Why is this award even supposed to be prestigious.

It's 5 dudes in Norway selecting whoever they want for whatever reasons they want.

Seems no different than any other random 5 people giving out awards to me.

Al Gore winning was an ever bigger joke than Obama imo.
