Prob worth betting the + money draws on that card.

Last time only 2 fights were finishes, it's much harder to finish a fighter in sub grappling than in MMA as so much easier to defend when you don't need to think about strikes.

Does anywhere have the lines for Metamoris? Is it automatically a draw if no sub? Do all matches start standing or is it like olympic wrestling

Yes, there are no points or judges decisions

Yes, but some people may immediately pull guard/sit guard.

Keenan vs Magalhaes draw -209 (3u)
Medeiros vs Saulo draw -273 (1u)
Tonnon +389 (1u)

Think I'm gonna stick with that and root for Chael to somehow get a draw.

Castillo at +180 is great, especially since that whole team has great things going on.

Any thoughts on Formiga vs Makovsky? I expected this to open very close and Formiga at +250 seems like a steal.

Sonnen draw +306 is tempting, sure he gets subbed a lot and it's grappling but if it starts standing shouldn't he be able to shoot a takedown and maintain top position throughout the match a decent amount of the time?

Barnett +705 is tempting too, is Lister really that much of a better grappler than he is? Barnett should have a pretty big size advantage right?

I get that Barnett and Sonnen are the MMA guys against pure grapplers but is an upset really that unlikely? I have no idea how to handicap submission grappling obviously

177 should actually be a decent card, 2 title fights, Castillo/Ferguson should be hard fought and competitive, Correia continues her quest to take down the 4 horsewomen, Baszler debuts, Brunson/Larkin should be entertaining and while the undercard lacks names other than Nijem and Jorgensen a lot of the fights have potential

Liking the Larkin, Nijem and Castillo lines plus leaning TJ if his lines continue to improve he's clearly getting better with each fight and we haven't seen a former champ win his belt back in quite a while

What can Formiga do against Makovsky? I don't see much, Makovsky is a very good grappler and he will be on top any time it hits the ground so he should be fine. Think he cruises to an easy decision here.

Is there a weight class for the Sonnen vs Galvao match? +306 draw is not enough if there is a weight limit. If Sonnen can come in at 225 against Galvao at 190-95 then maybe the line is ok. I just don't see Sonnen doing well in a BJJ/Grappling match vs one of the BJJ greats who is still in his prime. Sonnen has been subbed a lot in MMA, why will he not get subbed in a 20 min grappling match?

There is actually a decent chance Barnett holds his own here. He was a no-gi world champ back in 2009. He has some solid close matches (some wins some losses) with decent opponents. However there is no way he gets the sub.

Lister is only training BJJ right now and on the highest level, he is for good reason a large favorite. However more importantly he hasn't been Sub'd in competition since he was a bluebelt (and he was at a 100lbs weigh disadvantage). He has an unbelievable way of getting out of subs. His matches vs ribeiro and Keenan both show that ability really well.

Chael getting a draw is also unlikely. Galvao is a top 5 p4p bjj guy. He has shown very dominate wins vs wrestlers much more elite than Chael. In 20min Galvao should have his way.

Edit: No weight class. Chael/Barnett will both have a sizable weight advantage. However both are competing against ADCC absolute division champions. Hardly doubt it matters.

Formiga's should have the edge on the ground but struggles a lot on the feet as he has shown in all of his UFC. I think Makovsky should be the fav, was expecting him to be in the 155 - 185 range. Just surprised by Mak at -300 and Formiga at +250

Sonnen draw is a good bet if he see's that as a victory. If he deciders to just lock down from top position he should be able to defend for a draw quite easily. If he goes for subs himself he'll likely get caught.

There's no weight limit afaik, for any of the matches. I think Sonnen is drawing dead barring Galvao blowing out his knee or something. I don't think Galvao is top 5 p4p, but he's obviously ridiculously good. Even if Chael gets the takedown (and manages not to get subbed while doing it), once Andre recovers guard or sweeps it's going to be bad news for Chael. And I don't think he'll do it, but if Andre wants he can just immediately sit down and start scooting and Chael probably won't be able to pass and I think they have rules that force him to engage (to avoid a repeat of Cyborg/Schaub).

I think Barnett is in a similar boat for winning as Chael (~0%, I mean Xande had an armbar like 100% locked and still failed to submit him at Metamoris I), but a much better shot at a draw due to size, strength, and previous training. But Dean is such a leglock animal (I really wish they could've gotten Palhares and him to go off, even though Dean's a lot bigger). I also think conditioning might be a big factor in Barnett ultimately getting submitted if they go past 10 minutes.

I also like Tonon, Saulo, and Keenan, though they are all going to have a size disadvantage too I think (by 10-20#). I think they should all be really good matches though.

Really curious about the secret match. I feel like it was with someone well known like Marcelo Garcia, or a UFC guy they wouldn't waste the advertising, so I think it will be people who have some name in bjj, but not elite, or at least not any more.

Jon Jones might be a psycho. He just threatened Cormier, like repeateadly stating he would literally kill him if Cormier spits on him.

Think the secret match will be some lower profile purple/brown belts who are on their way up. Got to imagine if it was anyone with any kind of name value it wouldn't be a secret match.

Jones and Cormier are just so unlikable. I hope Gustafsson or Rumble crushes whoever the champ is. I think i'm cheering for Jones in this one though, I find Cormier to be even more offputting than Jones, plus Jones is the more exciting fighter

I'm rooting for Cormier, at least that guy isn't faking it. The way Jones switched off when talking to the interviewer and Cormier is amazing though.

Cormier's 'i'm not going to call you pat anymore' speech was more forced than anything Jones has done - i'm not a Jones fan either but at least he's an exciting fighter, Cormier as dominant champ would make me lose interest in the LHW division so quickly, win or lose I love watching Jones fight and Cormier hasn't had an entertaining fight since Strikeforce (although I didn't see Cormier vs Hendo)

His destruction of Cummings was entertaining (and means more after Cummings second fight)

The hendo fight was just 100% dominance, it was too one sided to be a great fight

There's a difference betweens Cormiers failed marketing attempt and Jones fakeness in portraying himself as someone he obviously isn't. I'm not sure if it's the jesus background, or if his PR folks are telling him.
The dude is obviously high on himself, and he should be, he's in my books the GOAT when it comes to an average of all aspects of MMA. But all the "I'm sorry for the fans bla bla" bull**** he pulls doesn't seem to be sincere.

Clearly he's reading from a script for his sponsors or w/e and doesn't actually believe it but the same could be said for a lot of fighters.

Just watched Dillashaw/Barao in full again, I don't see Barao winning a decision here very often, thinking i'll definitely fire on Dillashaw, especially if he continues improving with every fight. I think Barao will have to hurt him early, Dillashaw's shown he can be hurt (Dodson and Viana fights) if someone with power connects but I don't see it happening often enough and I think Dillashaw will grind him down over time if Barao can't hurt him early

I also can't wait to see Dominick Cruz fight either guy assuming he's the same fighter as pre-injury - Mizugaki's the perfect tuneup fight, legit top 10 but no insane KO power and a style that Cruz should beat if he's still in his prime.
