I wouldn't give a sarcastic "you're welcome" because it causes too much hassle but I would certainly be annoyed and would perhaps not open the door for people until things cool down after a week or so. It's usually a good way to judge a character by seeing how they respond to the door being opened for them, I will take note of someone who doesn't acknowledge my good deed.

Because he held the door open for her. I know it's not a big effort or anything but neither is saying "thanks". It's like anything really, manners go a long way.

Would you like a ribbon for participation also?

No just a thanks. You must be unbelievably trashy or socially awkward not to understand that "thanks" is the correct protocol. Oh well, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

I have to sit in this booth and do nothing while my boss writes reports, and dude types so slowly with two fingers looking at his keyboard the whole time.

Drives me nuts.

FWIW I think I mentioned the door holding open thing a while back and was equally flamed. The reaction was similar to when I said people should say TY after I've said God bless you when they've sneezed. Just common courtesy to say thanks. NBD, just acknowledging fellow humans. We live in a society, people!

No, everyone understands that saying thanks is the correct protocol. We also understand that being a douche when someone doesn't say thanks is actually more obnoxious than the original offense.

I mean I always say thanks, or wave or smile or something, but when I hold the door and someone doesn't acknowledge it, I don't fume or anything. I basically don't care if they acknowledge me or not, although I understand that some sort of acknowledgement would be the polite thing to do.

Frankly car drivers who fail to acknowledge courtesy (like when you all them into a line) piss me off way more than pedestrians. No idea why, really, it's the same concept. I may tend towards road rage.

I agree with you, it's quite awkward to actually say anything in response to rudeness, it just creates a problem out of nothing. I do think you're perfectly entitled to be a bit annoyed though in your head.

Well I'm never going to tell someone not to be annoyed in their own head, God knows I am enough.

I'd still hold the door for people, though. I don't even really think about it tbh, it's just a reflex.

Ha ha, I remember the "God bless you" discussion, with many outraged at the "God" part (they are idiots). So I just say "Bless you." My wife always sneezes twice so I wait for the second sneeze.

People who expect courtesy back and are over courteous in general.

Yes but holding a door open for me saves me some effort so I'll thank you for it. Blessing me has **** all impact on my life and therefore the "God Bless You", "Thank you" interaction is just a waste of everyones time.

I think it's been brought up, but this has been discussed ITT (or another thread) not too long along.

I'm with the consensus, saying "You're Welcome" instantly vaults you higher on the d-bag scale than the person who didn't thank you.

All of this "Team xxx" stuff when there are two opposing sides. It comes from books meant for tween girls, people. Grow up.

For some reason, I actually get annoyed on the inside when someone holds a door open for me. But I still say thanks you.

The funny thing about my flaming about the door thing is the title asks for things that "shouldnt piss you of but do". So I added my poast....

I didnt ask if I was right wrong or indifferent. Nor did I ask if you liked to have the door being opened for you. You see there use to be a thing called manners in this world, I was raised to open a door for a woman or man, I say thank you, your welcome, and please. I say yes sir or yes mamme, I answer when someone asks me how im doing or how are you today.

The fact that I felt that way is why I added my 2cents, so if you want to proceed feel free, as I could care less about the thoughts or ideals of a bunch of snivelling kunts!
