I have an excuse at least for driving slow. My engine overheats if I go too hard on the gas pedal.. people complain all the time and think I'm a huge nit. Also I have a warrant.

just saw this thread and have a couple
im sure there are stingier stories but i just wanted to add these

1) Friend of mine wanted to drive ~2 km to the bank to withdraw money, even though he was about 5 steps away from the ATM...the reason why? he didnt want to pay the $1.50 service fee or whatever. What makes it worse is that he asked our friend to drive

2) Another friend of mine was invited to a party hosted by his close friend, I dont know the guy too well. He didnt want to gas up his car so he asked the host to pick him up. The host! lol

I saw someone take a dollar from a homeless person. I thought that was pretty cold-hearted.

I have a friend who lives with his girlfriend. She insists on hand-washing the dishes despite having a perfectly good dishwasher in order to save on energy costs. She even refuses to let her boyfriend use the dishwasher when it's his turn to do the dishes.

This counted as an exam grade. Anticlimactically everyone wrote B and the story sucks, but it just make me think of that

Good thing this wasn't a game theory class, eh?

actually thought of a good one:

my brother and roomate were robbed twice when they lived together in this apt. a few years back. First time they both had their laptops stolen and a tv. After that my friend kept his new laptop under his sheets when he left and my brother left his out on his desk.

Well when they got robbed the second time my brothers laptop and ipod were stolen whereas the robbers completely missed my friends stuff. But my brother was charging his ipod with the friends charger so obviously the charger was stolen too. He wanted to be paid back for it.

to his credit they argued for a bit before asking 3rd parties who said to forget it and he did.

I have/had a friend in college who was really stingy. When we were noobs we would go to turning stone casino once in a while because we couldn't go to foxwoods being under 18 (we were all 17). Three of us lose like 200ish (a lot of money for broke 17 year old college students) and the stingy kid wins like 1100 which was unheard of at that time. He doesn't buy anyone anything (anytime any of us won anything wed buy food, beers etc for the group) and then a day after we get back IMs all of us and says "by the way you guys all owe me 7 bucks for gas." We said LOL are you kidding me? His response was "we all made the same investment." We did not pay him. He's the same kid who asked me for a dollar for burning me a cd and won't take money out at atms with fees, and drives a 50k car.

this thread is so crazy....

when I was in jhs my dad used to give me a dollar and instead of spending it for lunch I just ate a big breakfast and wait to get home at 3pm to eat. I would use half of any money I saved for personal things (baseball cards exclusively usually) and the other half for gifts for others. Believe me I wish my parents woulda realized what a big deal it was for an 8 year old to spend $20 on them every now and then without an allowance bc he starved himself during lunch.

This maybe isn't nice, but I wouldn't call not spending on your friends after a big score "stingy" really.

A friend of mine who prides herself on her appearance has an 8 year old son. He is underweight and very small for his age, and his pediatrician suggested she give him certain vitamins (I forgot the name, but they weren't the ones you normally would think of for kids).

When she found out the vitamins weren't covered by insurance, she decided that his being small and underweight wasn't that big of a deal. She wouldn't spend the $40 a month it would be for him to have them, but has no trouble going to a hairdresser and spending $120 in a shot, or buying 5 shades of lipstick at $30 each.

The day she was supposed to get the vitamins but found out they weren't covered, she literally went to a shoe store and spent $350 on herself for shoes that were a "must have".

This belongs in a bad parenting thread or something b/c I'm sure people have tons of stories about that. Bad parents tilt the hell out of me.

My youngest son in underweight...like he's 7 and just entered the 0% range for weight. Prior to that he wasn't even on the chart. No idea how 0% means he's on the chart, but I digress: we've spent a lot of money on different kinds of foods and vitamins to get him to a normal weight. Doc says he's just small.

I don't think that is nitty. My bank charges $1.50 on top of the atm fee, so it is usually around $4 to withdraw from non bank atms.

Haha you just reminded me of someone I know who drives like 2 meters behind the trucks on the highway to save gas. One day one of the trucks is going to brake hard and he can use his saved up money to fix his car.

I was staying at a friend's house and I go to the kitchen to get a glass of water. His mum is in there loading the dishwasher. After she's done, she takes a tablet then pulls out a knife and proceeds to cut the tablet in half (took a good three minutes). I couldn't help but stare and when she notices me, she just says 'I'm running the dishwasher on economy mode so I don't need to use a full tablet'. I just nod. My friend had stepped into the kitchen and heard that last part and wanted to die.

Ofc when the dishes came out, they weren't clean at all.

Oh and his mum is a religious bigot obv.
