My mother participates in a tennis league and when they host and compete against another club they're supposed to provide a snack and drinks for afterward. Six women participate, two singles and two doubles, and the owner of the pub on the club property offered to put out a spread, which all agreed was very nice, including pizza, veggie plates, cheese and crackers and so on. But the price tag was thirty dollars and the six dollars per person was far more than they would bear. Membership at the club is over three hundred dollars a month. They've negotiated the food down to twenty dollars and a lesser spread for future weeks.

The German power company made me drive downtown, pay to park and settle a debt of an overage of what would have been 87 cents. Not kidding.

Kinda standard of companies to do that. I pay universities fees yet I still have to give them an enveloppe and stamp it for them to send me my results. Had to the same thing for my driving license which cost 2k$ in my country.

My first summer out of college, my friends and I (about 10 of us) stayed at another friend's apartment, who was going into her senior year. It was mid-summer in Philly and 90+ degrees. She was real nitty about her electric bill and wouldn't put the a/c on.

It's her apt, so I guess it's fine. But we asked her how much she paid per month, and she told us $40. She had a roommate, thus making her portion $20/month. We told her that we'd all chip in and pay her $20 each, thus covering her bill almost though the first semester. She wanted none of it b/c she wanted to keep her electric bill under $50/month.

We then offered to call the elec company and pay them $200 directly, and she still said no.

Not so much stingy as much as stupid, but there you go.

wtf? this qualifies for the stingiest thing I've ever heard of someone doing. 10 of you stayed in a two person apartment? she probably just hated you guys for crashing her place, I can't say I blame her.

No it wasn't like that. We all were hanging out there drinking into the night. This was common practice among us.

Also, if I remember correctly, it was at her request.

Arguing with nits about AC is pointless. One of my roommates has it set in his mind that we shouldn't ever use the AC, or if we do he sets it at 80. Obviously I change the setting, it will never register in his mind that it only costs like a quarter a day to run the AC at a reasonable temp.

They're all like "I don't like air conditioning." But when you think about, what is air conditioning? It's just a definite solution to a problem. "Oh, it's hot in here..." <click> "Now it's cool in here. You're right, that does suck." It reminds me of a time when I was hungry and ate that food...

Last summer driving to the coast. We're in a tight arse's car and it's right hot. We ask for the AC on to which he promptly replies "that'll ruin the miles per gallon, I want £5 from each of you if I put it on". We were ~20 miles away when we asked :/

granmda isn't terribly stingy but I do remember one embarrasing time

we go to chilli's or some similiar restraunt and there is a family in the booth behind her with teenage girls that I guess were being too loud for my grandmother. She tells the waitress that she needs to ask the other table to quiet down some so she can enjoy her meal (other table wasn't even being that loud). The waitress obviously doesn't know what to do becuase the girls weren't even out of line anyway and she doenst want to ruin her tips. Since the waitress won't do anything my grandma puts up a huge fuss and leaves one penny on the table as a tip. Thankfully her husband went back saying he needed to use the restroom and left a legitimate tip.

This one guy I know drove downtown to his German power company, and paid to park all in an effort to settle an 87c dispute.

A relative divorced her husband, and he moved out of the house they shared. A week later he comes to the house in the middle of the day while she's at work and dismantles and removes the garage door opener, despite the fact he now lives in an apartment without a garage.

LOL divorce

Yeah but then it's probably not stinginess as much as being as much of a pain in the butt as possible to get back at them.

Work at a Casino and we use to have a coupon for a free muffin/coffee and a .99 cent breakfast. There was a group of people who would every day ride the free shuttle up and get both and then ride it back downtown again. Or others (often the same Asian ladies) would go up to different Marketing people and get multiple copouns and bag like 5 breakfasts (scrambled eggs, bacon, toast all in the same bag) and take it home with them.

Edit:

Oh and since all slot machines are now ticket in, ticket out, sometimes people will get tickets for like .01, .02, .03, etc and just leave them beside their machine or the floor whatever. Now if you take that ticket and redeem it at the Automated machine you will get a full .05 (since the machines don't hold pennies) and we have people that do this constantly, quite sad.

My brother is the most nittiest driver ever.

He never presses the gas pedal totally because, "the engine cant use that much fuel anyway, so it doesnt matter if you give him 80% fuel or 100%, you acclerate about as fast with 80% but u save fuel."

He hardly ever uses his breaks, "you dont lose energy with driving, but with braking". When he is between two villages he doesnt care to speed up, but drives with constant speed, "because u have to slowdown in a mile again anyway".

About a year ago this type of driving was actually a small craze with the super nitty. I think it was called hyper-mileage or something like that. They drove slow, they wore ice vests to keep the A/C off, they tailgated for air resistance, etc..

These stories about gas nits are tilting the **** out of me. Drive like that when you're alone but if you have passengers please don't put them through that hell and nonsense.
