Just ignorant. I stand corrected. Isn't Hawaii plural for Hawaus?

Is this really correct use of a semi-colon? It just looks wrong to me.

nope. but since nobody really knows how to use semi-colons it doesn't really matter.

huh? That semicolon is perfectly acceptable.

His use of the dratted semi-colon would be far more acceptable if he removed the word "also" from the sentence.

Memo to our delivery drivers at my work. RSR's are basically our drivers and HH4's are the handheld computers the drivers use during the day.

"taller than me" is definitely correct. i specifically learned in grade school to use "me" there and not "I"

"taller than I" does sound pompous

Would of, should of, could of, and might of
are all phonetic spellings for the way people speak the contractions would've, should've, could've, and might've, and they should never, ever be written down unless it is to deliberately show the illiteracy of a character in dialog.

I found instances of these in a new book recently from a major publishing house, where the editors allowed the author to perform this grotesque misuse of language in the first person (non-fiction). I sent the author an email and he didn't reply.

I also saw a newpaper column recently where the writer used "phase" when he meant "faze". Ugh. That really phased me.

Cleverly done. I suspect many readers won't catch them all, and some won't notice anything wrong.

The word Punctuation shouldn't be capitalized, and consecutive sentences ending with an exclamation is pretty bad form if you really want to get nitty.

You know you've crafted a fine thread when 1000+ posts in people are praising the title. It's a masterpiece PJ.

But here's a point, folks: the use of language is subordinate to its users.
That is, if the majority of folks say:

"This data is corrupt." -- then it's correct. They have effectively communicated. If you learn a foreign language, or remember when we all were first learning English, there's a ton of exceptions all over the place to standard rules. The goal of language is communication -- not necessarily saying everything super proper.
Boy, are you in the wrong thread!

An English major was being released after serving three years in prison for tax fraud. As he was leaving the penitentiary, a beautiful young female corrections officer was in charge of handing all exiting prisoners their personal possessions back, as well as the $100 in spending money guaranteed to them.

She offered the English major the $100, but he waved it off and told her that she could keep the money if she would have sex with him. She promptly had him arrested and he was sent right back to jail. Why?

Everyone knows you shouldn't end a sentence with a proposition.
