At a touch over 160 lbs and not very strong but in decent shape, I would think I'm favored in the match over a fatty with just 80lbs, but 160 lbs no chance. I'd like to have the option of experimenting with different harnesses/methods of carrying weight, as I started thinking of it as carrying 2 40lb bags of water softener salt. I'm pretty positive I could walk quickly, which is way more than the fat guy will pull off after 100m, judging by high school gym.

I would like to see skinny guy's face. I've observed that stupid people look similar; looking for more data points!

I'm 5'10" 155. I once spent a week in Panama lugging bags of concrete and other heavy crap down a steep hill. Going off that experience I think I could take fatty in a quarter mile, but it'd be close.

I was working with indigenous people there and I bet the farm on the 5'4" 140 pound men and even money on the 5' 100 pound women who were also working.

Given skinny's stupidity level on making the 160 lb bet I'm going to go with fatty on this one.

question - same 1/4 mile race, same fat guy, but for the skinny guy we get Allen Iverson to suit up.

How much weight does he have to carry to make it an even race?

how much different is this between piggy backing a 160lb person? i feel like i could run 1/4 mile with someone my size on my back ... not sure if i could run faster than a 320lb guy though.

That link shows a 50 yard piggyback race where three pairs of highschool guys (gos?) race from midfield to the endzone. They probably each weight 130-160lb and are moving pretty fast. Certainly faster than a 330lb. person runs. They would be in far more control and faster if they were each carrying only 80lbs.

I'd say its pretty close to even money. If the fat guy played football in hs and one year of college ball he probably isn't a total tubbo fat guy. I ran triathlons and cross country through highschool and I have basically stopped all cardiovascular exercise for the past two years and I would still say I am in significantly better shape than a person with similar physique who has never exercised.

Against a randomly selected 330lb. American I take the skinny guy with 80lb. on his back every time. Ex college football player? It's getting close to even money. I'd pick the fat guy but it's really close. I think the chances that the skinny guy is overconfident are higher than the chances the fat guy is. I'd expect most fat people to completely avoid this type of thing if they had a shadow of a doubt.

****... yeah. The piggy back argument seems really solid. I'm starting to think I'm wrong.

50 yards is a whole lot different than a quarter mile imo

yeah, but 80lbs seems doable in piggyback form

Its a *huge* difference, and its not a speed issue, its a strength issue. Its like saying you can do 10 pushups pretty easily, so of course you can also do 80 pushups.

I see it this is a strength issue, not an endurance thing. The trick with endurance is you can run longer if you don't go as fast. With strength stuff the only way you can keep going is to lower the weight. Can't lower the weight = at some point around the track the non-fat guy is just going to fail and not be able to move anymore. Clearly its not less than 50 yards, but I'll bet its less than 400.

Edit: Here I am talking about carrying a ~140 pound person. At 80 pounds the non-fat guy has a chance, as that is a lot less weight.

At 80lbs, backpacked, I'm reckoning about 60/40 skinny guy.

i feel like i could do this if it was piggy backing someone of equal weight, otherwise, distributing/holding the weight could become problematic.

thing is, since the guy can basically design his own harness there must be something that's no worse than a piggyback. 80lb of concrete is much more compact than 80lb of flesh.

I'm just not convinced some random dude can run 400m with 80 extra pounds. I'm not even so sure about walking fast. Sure, if you're young and an athlete and you work out regularly, it's possible. But for a chronic smoker? Seems unlikely.

this is where I am at. I'd probably bet on myself in these circumstances.

Without a good backpack, it'll be quite hard. Piggybacking is easier because the person on your back is holding on tight and moving with you without thinking about it. It is a much more natural extension of weight than a 80# bag on your back w/ nylon straps might be.

id say fat guy 4-1 favorite. ive never worn a 80# backpack, but im pretty sure i could smoke about any fat guy if i were carrying 40# dumbbells in each had w/straps. i realize this analysis is contrary to my fat guy 4-1 line, but my point is that im great. i am really, really great. im glad i could contribute to this thread.

You guys seem to think that just because you can piggy back someone a short distance, that it somehow translates to a 1/4 mile race. It doesn't work like that...once the skinny guy hits the wall it's game over
Prop Bet: Fat Guy vs Regular Guy Carrying Bags of Concrete in a Footrace Quote

Obviously there is a wall but as weight decreases that wall moves farther and farther away at a rate disproportionate to the extent to which weight decreases. Don't you agree? Like if it was 40 pounds over half a mile I put my money probably still on the fat guy because of the college football factor. If it is 20 pounds over a mile I put my money one the skinny guy because 20 pounds is like a big camelbak and some bulky winter clothes and many some heavy hiking boots. Quite manageable. 10 pounds over two miles? Even if you distribute that weight poorly, like let's say you decide to wear a hat with one pound weights attached to strings that pound you in the back constantly in the back and neck I think that the fat guy will get smoked.

yeah man the piggy backing argument is pretty reasonable until you realize just how far 1/4 mile is with 80 lbs.

Fat guy is a lock if this ever goes down.
