Skinny guy would be about like this

Fat guy would be about like this (maybe a BIT less, but not much)

(obv just example pictures)

most of the outcome depends on the fat guys conditioning. i know a guy (who posts here) who is 450+ pounds, but his legs are proportionally strong enough so he can run short distances and walk for a reasonably long time. on the other hand, you can find some guy who is that weight that is almost bed ridden.

there's a lot less variability in the guy who weighs 155. unless he's completely lean and works out a LOT, he will struggle immensely to finish with even 80 pounds and will collapse almost instantly with 180 pounds.

if this bet is actually taking place, i'd have to assume the 360 pound guy is in horrible shape because if not, it would be a complete and obvious blowout.

for what it's worth, i have a kind of relevent story. i weigh about 210 now, was about 160 4 years ago, and 8 years ago, i was about 210. when at 160, i tried carrying a 50 pound weight to see how mobile i'd be. it wasnt even close. teh awkwardness of the weight made up for a lot of it, but i think even if i was wearing a body suit that distributed it evenly, my fat self would run circles around the thin version carrying the extra weight.

when your body gets big, as long as you do a reasonable amount of walking in your day to day activities.... your calves (and really all of your legs) grow proportionally to carry it.

Based on those pictures I think even money would be around 60 pounds.

I think an 80# bag in a proper backpack is close to even. With a homemade harness carrying the weight half on his stomach, it's not a chance.

I was in boyscouts and we'd pack 50# in our backpacks pretty regularly. We would still run around and able to move without too much problem. I was about 100-110# during this time. I would approach this more as hiking if i were skinny guy instead of running. Get used to wearing a HEAVY pack and keeping a steady pace.

Need to have proper waist & chest straps on the pack, and I'd probably wear light hiking boots for the cushion & ankle support. I don't want to roll an ankle w/ 80# on my back.

Dude, Fat guy wins this like 95% of the time. Only way he loses is if he has a heart attack. Skinny guy won't be able to go much faster than a slow, shuffling walk.

Fat guy wins. I see about a 99% chance of the skinny guy getting hurt.

Yes, they play in the NFL. The rest of us fat guys watch them from our couches while we eat pizza and drink beer.

You guys are thinking about this all wrong.

The pure numbers are mostly irrelevant. At 160 pounds of ballast, Skinny was carrying his entire body weight. At 80, he's only carrying half. So the race is 1½ Skinnies vs. Fat Guy. This is now a much closer race.

X-Factor: if the track is icy. Fat Guy is probably reasonably adept at maintaining his balance if he hits a frozen patch and slips. Skinny, because of his new weight distribution, is likely to wind up on his ass.

I don't think this has been asked yet: what do the contestants do for a living? If one's a blue collar worker who actually works, while the other spends all day on his ass, it gives us a better picture of their conditioning.

without knowing either participant i'd say even money is probably around 50 pounds, assuming you actually put it in a backpack and distribute the weight properly. either way it would be hilarious to watch.

Probably around next week. Fatty is pretty adamant about the race "not wind(ing) up on youtube", but there's going to probably be 15-20 people there watching- about 1/2 of whom have action on it- so I'd imagine it will.

What if skinny guy uses two dumbells of 40 pounds each and does a Farmer's Walk? Would that be less risky injurywise? He could also drop them and rest?

his grip would go out quite fast and that would be the real problem, not his conditioning.

I think I'd have a good shot at doing this but I'm slightly bigger than the skinny guy in the OP and probably in better shape. All I'm basing this on is piggyback races; a 80lb kid is really small and 1/4 mile is almost the perfect length for the skinny guy: just long enough for the fat guy to be winded and out of breath half way through, but not long enough that he collapses himself.

Only way skinny guy wins this is if fat guy has a heart attack. The skinny guy would probably have trouble walking 160 lbs out of a squat rack.

I keep trying to sorta use ruck marches where I've had to jog to help people out in my opinion on this bet, but I never had to carry more then ~45lbs which I could jog with pretty easily. I also weigh ~215lbs though, so this makes it a lot easier.

80lbs still seems like a ton to me. I'm a pretty big guy, and in decent shape, but I don't know how far I could jog with that much weight on me. I really feel like if it was me I would burn out after about 150 yards where I'd be gasping for air as fast as I could get it while the fat guy blew by me.
