Fat Guy: About as 'healthy' as you can be for a really fat guy. 32 years old, 6' , 330 pounds. Played football in high school and one year in college, relatively spry for a guy his size. Obviously, not much of a "runner". Plays lots and lots and lots of video games. Betting the fat guy to win has covered action (up to $1K) paying 3-2.

Regular sized guy: 33 years old, 5'10, 155 pounds. Pretty healthy, but a smoker. Not particularly active; definitely not a runner. Will be running while wearing 160# of concrete, one 80# bag strapped to his front and one 80# bag on his back.

The race: 1/4 mile on a track, in December, in a northern state that's cold. There may be snow.

What side do you like?

would the skinny guy be allowed to train for the race? if not i think fatty will easily win because skinny will quickly become overwhelmed with the extra 160 lbs to lug around. if training is allowed i think it would be close and id lean towards skinny guy.

So it's the skinny guy + the concrete extra weight vs. the fat guy with no concrete weight (i.e. just the fat guy by himself)? I'd take the fat guy. Think if the fat guy got into great shape, he'd probably be 200 lbs of muscle; that's what he's carrying under his fat frame, not 155 lbs of skinny smoker. I can't see skinny guy winning this.

Wait, they're both wearing 160lbs of concrete right? I predict neither finishes the race. If the fat guy has no concrete on him, he could walk it and win easily.. I think you're under-estimating the effect of the concrete.

Edit: I used to have to carry these bags when I was younger (17 years old ~180lbs) and carrying even 1 bag 200ft was LOL hard. I couldn't imagine carrying 2 bags for more then 50ft back then and not dying.

No, just the skinny guy is wearing the concrete.
The fat guy is only carrying his immense fatness. I maybe should've been a bit more clear; while he's 'healthy' for a fat guy, the idea of him running makes anyone who knows him burst into laughter.

Skinny guy has probably a week to train and he's definitely training like a mother****er. Fat guy thinks it's such a lock, he isn't training at all.

Bear in mind; it's only 1/4 mile.

Skinny guy throws in the towel before he gets fully suited up.

I would put my entire roll on the fat guy at any odds pretty much. This bet is LOL-worthy, I'd estimate the skinny guy at finishing in less then an hour (if he ever does) at 2%.

Finding a way to strap the bags to him should be funny too, wherever they're stapped he's going to have huge rope burns or whatever.

I'd say the break-even line for this bet is with the skinny carrying 40-50 extra lbs.

Skinny guy is actually laying a price against the fat guy, up to $1k. $500 of the action is already booked, I'll probably take the other $500.

As far as strapping, the design is looking to be nylon tow straps rigged into a "saddle" formation where the concrete bags will sit (one front, one back), with rolled up towels for padding where the straps bear against his skin.

If he tries to do anything but walk (which he won't be able to), the bags will slap him silly and he'll fall down.

Fwiw, I think the fat guy would still win if he had to carry 160lbs also.

easily the fat guy. The fat guy could just start running as fast as he can and he'd be way out in front before he got tired. Then he fat man shuffles the rest of the way and he's still probably going faster than the skinny guy with 160 lbs of concrete. Its hard to run weighing 330 but its much harder to run weighing 2x as much as you did 5 minutes ago

No, I'm fat, but I'm not the fat guy in question.

I really hope this is like Irieguy's thread where you know something special about fat guys that allows the skinny guy to win the race. Because otherwise he has no chance. Maybe if it was 60 lb of concrete (you mean cement though, right?).

does none of the skinny guy's friends know anyone who did sports in high school? we had to do 'brides' or whatever, ie team up with dude your size and you have to carry him in front of you and try to run. the best strategy was to lift him up as high as you could, which was tiring obv but not as tiring as the running. from what i remember, if you were in good shape you might be able to muster up a fast jog for like 20 yards, then 20 yards of still jogging but not going any faster than walking, and then it was barely walking.

no way the concrete sandwich is gonna be less uncomfortable than that; the fat guy can walk in a brisk pace and still win.

given the descriptions (smoker, no athleticism) im not even sure the skinny guy would win without the concrete.

ridic bet, bet your house on the fat guy

If the skinny guy loses his balance and falls straight forward or backwards, he will get squished like a grape between the bags of concrete.

That's a good point actually. I think the risk of permanent knee damage is also an issue.
