I remember a radio show where some woman had written a book about beauty tips and something like this was in it. The host let the woman go on and on with the mathematics regarding the amazing amounts of calories that you would burn just having to heat up that 8 oz glass of ice water. When she was done the host politely asked if she was aware that the "Calorie" listed on the nutritional labels were actually Kilocalories (1000 calories - enough to heat 1000 grams of water one degree). The interview ended very shortly after that.

The first is sketchball as hell and stealing nickels from druggies isn't a life trick. If you even manage to make it work...

The second one is just wrong and anyone that has drank ever knows it.

Im got a high tolerance for alcohol and can pretty much go 3/4 hrs drinking with little memories, doesnt help that I dont seek good value drinks when im hammered and buy shorts or vodka red bulls to beat the band.

Plus Im Irish and its expensive as hell to get drunk here...

Just clamped one of these on the back of my desk and threaded a usb cable up through it for my camera and other accessories. The weight of the cable makes it self-retract and it catches on the binder clip before falling to the floor.

Awesome. IDK how it's possible to not ask that smugly though.

It's not a trivial amount though. A cup (8 US fluid oz) of water is 237 mL. 8 cups a day is roughly 1900 mL, or 1900g. Warming that amount every day from ~4 C to 37 C is 62.7 Kcal. Over the course of the year that's roughly ~23000 Kcal, and at 3500 Kcal per pound that's 6.5 pounds of fat burned off just from heating water (or you can think of it as fasting for 10-15 days). Obviously you don't go from Jabba the Hutt to Kate Bosworth just from drinking ice cold water, but it does have an actual effect.

We keep these in the kitchen to close chip bags too. A lot cheaper than buying special "chip clips."

But we live in a world where, in a traffic jam where everyone is stopped, some people feel they have the right to jump into the shoulder, drive 60 MPH as far as they can go, and then cut back in to the general population.

MURDER THEM.
don't mind if I do.

never pull in at the back of an exit line on the highway, there is always somewhere near the front to get in.

If there is a chunk of feces stuck on the interior of my toilet bowl above the water line I will just aim my pee stream at it the next few times I go. Not only is this cleaning method easy is kinda fun as well.

hot drinks increase metabolism as well so as long as you're not drinking room temperature drinks your entire life it's probably negligible :P

It's still not clear what you/nutsflopper are objecting to.

Are you being pedantic (a good thing, imo ) and objecting on the basis that unless your energy intake/output is exactly balanced for the entire year apart from the cold drinks you will not 'burn off' 6.5lbs of fat?

Or are you objecting on the basis that the body is always generating heat and the intake of cool water will simply mean that it does not have to use some other method to achieve thermostasis?

I think they are saying that drinking cold water is like filling up a pool with 1l of water.

You're not gonna burn fat for all that energy, you'll mostly just get it from the food you eat
