i mean i wouldn't drop my number until after a date was set... It just seems kind of weird to ask for a girl's number before you have anything set when you're already communicating via email. Hey let me get your number so we can switch to another form of digital communication and set a date
A lot more natural to just say "ok great, I'll see you on Thursday! My number is xxx in case you need to get in touch." or whatever. Never had a girl not text just to say hey here's my number within 24 hours. More often than not they just give their number to you over e-mail after you ask them out anyways.
