Argued to be even more notorious Pablo Escobar himself, Guzman has been terrorizing Mexico for the last decade. He broke the main cartels' non-aggression pact by murdering the head of a rival cartel, setting Mexico ablaze for the following decade. He has finally been captured:

Does this mean things drastically change or does the number 2 guy take over and no real difference?

Hopefully there would be a number 2 in line and a smooth transition because he's leaving a huge power vacuum that could incite a wave of violence.

Wasn't there some 2+2 thread where some poster was going to go to Mexico to try to capture El Chapo and get the reward?

His son is most likely his successor but there's always the chance of a power struggle which will make things a lot worse than they are now.

Although it's "good" they caught him, unfortunately this will probably not change much at all, if anything it might make things worse

wow that's an amazingly ignorant post! nice perspective to have when the violence being discussed will have zero impact on your life.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the above mentioned agencies understand the situation better than you do.

In the grand scheme of things capturing a murderer doesn't really change anything, either. Maybe we should quit wasting our time with that, too.

Lol Howard. Yea its better that massive infighting occurs, innocent bystanders and the rule of law be damned. Must be easy to live life through such a childishly simplistic "them guys be bad, them guys fighting, great " lense. This is why we can't have nice things.

These 'people' murder innocents by the dozen, at a whim. Recently some random cartel assassin was arrested and charged w/ 30+ murders. The reaction from the Mexican authorities was 'we've seen worse.' 'Rule of law?' What rule of law? We are talking about nearly the worst and it's only 'nearly' bec Al Qaida is the worst.

Maybe we get lucky and they take some of the corrupt politicians to the grave w/ them.
