He could probably afford to spend like 10 billion dollars hiring people to break him out.

He'd have to have something like this pretty much set up ahead of time though, and I doubt he has given he was caught in Mexico wearing a dirty wife beater, instead of living in some no extradition paradise under a new identity after having extensive plastic surgery.
But he doesn't really have control over any money while he's in prison. He only gets broken out if there's dudes that want him out and can do it.

Maybe he has hidden money he can promise people, I guess.

He can very effectively still pull strings from prison if allowed. An article I read said he has enough money to buy off the whole prison staff if he wanted, so again, his not escaping again is not a guarantee. You don't stay in his position for as long as he did (even as a fugitive) without a lot of skill.

The tunnel he escaped from still hasn't been filled. If he can somehow pay people off in order to get back in the same cell he can escape through the same tunnel.

You guys who believe you can buy your way out of supermax are living in a fantasy world.

It's theoretically possible, but you'd need Michael Bluth's stair car.

He's getting out of the supermax when Larry Hoover does. In the meantime he'd better enjoy conversing with neighbors like Ted Kaczynski.

cmon, this is devolving into a pedantic mess. I am not saying it is easy or likely, but I am contending that it is within the realm of possibility, however remote.

It is definitely theoretically possible, it is just highly highly unlikely.

I give. I can' t win against 'anything is possible.' El Chapo = Lex Luthor now.

what's up with him being so popular that people want his shirt? I'd like to know the demographics of the buyers.

I'd be amazed if he makes it to trial.

Some other drug lord will pay someone to shank him while he's in custody.

Whose custody? I doubt anyone will touch him in the Mexican prison. I read they're moving him around randomly so that he can't figure out any ways to escape. He believes he's being psychologically tortured, and that probably will stop eventually.

I think it's funny that people are arguing about his escape chances from Supermax. He gets there, it's game over. People should be speculating about whether he actually gets extradited and put in a prison in the U.S. rather than whether he can escape a U.S. prison. Remember, he was in prison for 8 years before his first escape. When he was finally caught again, he escaped again. The odds should be on him finding a way to escape. The guy is extraordinarily rich and powerful, and has tentacles all over the Mexican government.

I read that the U.S. never even formally put in a request to extradite El Chapo because they don't want him to testify in a U.S. court and spill the beans over U.S. involvement with his cartel

Here's an article by Times that explains that looks like DEA has cut deals with Sinaloa cartel & they have been in cooperation. Feds were meeting with Sinaloa members on a regular basis. US does not want El Chapo dropping names and exposing that with all the juicy details lol

Governments on both sides of the border really probably want nothing to do with any testimony he'd give. Reagan would just get absolutely mauled in any testimony. NAFTA paved the way for the easy drug trafficking. If Clinton is elected, you think she wants that to be waved up in their faces? I don't see him ever testifying.

And if he does testify, it would only be interesting if it were public testimony.

The Mexican government is as dirty as there is. That one mayor and his wife rounding up those kids in the nightclub and having them all murdered comes to mind. Also reminds me of Italy in the 1980s and 1990s and their battle with the mafia. Many in the intelligence services and even the prime minister were accused of helping the mob in exchange for large numbers of votes.

MSN is reporting that a "broken" El Chapo has requested his lawyer attempt to get him extradited to the U.S. after suffering from sleep deprivation inside one of Mexico's maximum security prisons. He wants a reduced sentence and a medium security prison to go...lol. They'd have to be insane to put him in a medium security prison.

You would think by now they would have come to the conclusion that life is a hell of a lot easier if you just kill the Cartel bosses when you are trying to capture them

Yeh is their logic 'oh, someone else will just take over'?

or do they fear an all-out messy gang war?
