Police are investigating whether the food served on board the missing Malaysian airliner was poisoned.

They are also retracing every piece of cargo that was loaded on to the Boeing 777, including tonnes of mangosteens, a tropical Asian fruit with a leathery shell surrounding fragrant white flesh.

[...]

Inspector-General Khalid said every possible angle had to be investigated to rule out sabotage.

[...]

Meanwhile, China's ambassador in Kuala Lumpur Huang Huikang has defended Malaysia’s handling of the plane’s disappearance, denying allegations of any cover-up.

“There were weaknesses in the co-ordination between different departments and contradictory statements were given,” Mr Huang said. “They need to be improved in future efforts. But in the face of such a rare and immense disaster, no one can perform perfectly,” he said.

Mr Huang accused Western media of playing a disgraceful role.

“They have published false news, stoked conflict and even spread rumours,” he said. “These could provoke the frail spirits of the next of kin and damage the good relations between Malaysia and China. We strongly oppose this.”

Mandatory monthly psychological tests, probes into his private life, etc. I would imagine this is the least desirable cause for pilots, which is perhaps why most of them are so eager to accept mechanical failure as an explanation.

I was bored and watched CNN for 20 minutes last night. They mentioned probabilities of major theories and the last one surprised me.

They had the mechanical failure, pilot suicide, hijacking gone bad, and the last one 'hijack/stolen - 9%' surprised me. Is there any chance this airplane is not sharkbait in the water somewhere?

Mr Huang praised the media for their excellent reporting on this tragedy but saved his highest praise for CNN.

"CNN's reporting on the black hole theory illustrates their unrelenting determinism to ask the hard questions that other news organizations are afraid to ask"
.
Perhaps we can lend some Benghazi obsessed congress critters to Malaise-ia to help them get to the bottom of who knew what when and how it was covered up. E.g. Darrell Issa would likely be able to get to the bottom of this.

The only chance that that is a possibility is if the satellite ping readings turn out to be wrong. Don't see any reason for that to be the case.

all pilots will now be required to wear

so we can monitor their brain for suicidal thoughts.

pprune raping probability for ChrisV:

However historically as only about 10% or less of air crashes are caused by high jack or suicide then it has to be assumed that an aircraft malfunction has occurred.

Yeah that pprune post is dumb. Not every crash ends up with communications turned off, 7 hours before it crashes.

Here's another theory: the plane doesn't exist, CNN made it all up for the ratings.

Man, I hope they find the plane, but WITH NO CORPSES and the flight recorder is missing.

How great would that be?

If you can't make it in Hollywood, you can always land a part as a vicsim.

Families aren't in on it. The "victims" are. But they are just hiding in a hotel, reaping the rewards, and will show up to their families in a year with a big paycheck. They'll probably get transported to some island for the final leg of the plan, and get found shortly thereafter.

About 9% chance from what I've heard.

so many whacked out conspiracies. can't it just be the plane flew into the ocean and we as humans don't yet know actually how large the oceans actually are?

The search seems pretty hopeless at this point. I'm resigned to the plane probably never being found.

Yes. It's looking grim. Huge areas not yet searched. I read somewhere they have moved slightly further north today. Black boxes not likely to beep (or whatever they do) much longer.

You may not know how large oceans are, but actual smart people do.
