So whenever my iPhone goes into sleep mode or whatever, I now have to press the button like 2 or 3 times before it comes on, and now when it comes on it has like iPod controls on the home screen. WTF did I do for it to come up?

If you press the home button from the main menu it brings up the iPod controls unless you've set it to something else. One of the extra presses of the home button is launching the music player before the screen wakes up. Be patient I guess, try rebooting it every couple of days.

I'm not sure about a windows guide, but you can do it with OSX with this guide

http://www.modmyi.com/forums/iphone-...wnagetool.html

I think for windows you use the program redsn0w

It has been doing it all day. Would resetting it help?

Hi guys, I tried googling and searching this thread, but still had a question about the 3gs I'm about to buy. I know that youtube quality is not so good unless its over wifi, but a couple of apps like threeg tricker and voip3g seem to get mixed reviews as to whether the quality actually increases. I noticed tricker seems to be what I would want, but I only read that it's being used with sling. Any ways to boost youtube quality over non-wifi, whether it's edge or 3g.

Thanks and sorry if I missed the answer earlier.

1) you must jailbreak to use ThreeG Tricker.
2) Jailbreaking involves installing custom software on your iphone, and is not necessarily easy
3) jailbreak for 3Gs is still heavily in beta right now
4) jailbreak for 3Gs does not yet support ThreeG Tricker

Thanks for the info Freakin. Does the ThreeG tricker program for 3G let you play HQ youtube vids over non-wifi though? Just wondering since I'm guessing they'll eventually have support for 3G S. From what I've read, most people refer to it as being able to use sling, but not so much youtube. Thanks.

The way I understand it, tricker3G allows you to use apps that are wifi only (like sling) over 3G and EDGE. It just tricks the app into thinking it is on wifi when it's not. It shouldn't have any effect on quality.

Anyway, I tested it for you. Watching a youtube video on wifi then switching to EDGE with tricker3G installed, there is a loss of quality. The video on EDGE looks the same as it did over EDGE before I installed tricker3G last week. I'm not in a 3G area at the moment, so can't test that, but I don't think it would matter.

I'm still loving the slingplayer too. Now I don't have to read on the toilet, I can watch ESPN.

Thanks for the info DS, appreciated.

Wifi on my 3GS is messed up. Works great on most networks, but on my home network, I get no speed at all. My roommates original iphone gets faster wifi speeds on my home network, and my 3G speed is faster than the wifi on my 3GS.

WTF

Reboot? Restore?

Tried both. Works great on almost all networks but my home network. Thought maybe it was my network, but all computers, and my roommates iPhone 2G, work great on my home network.

There's a program on Cydia called 123Spoof that makes it ridiculously fun to screw with people.

You can plug in the call display number that appears on the other person's phone when you call them.

This is good for:
- Calling your friends from a mutual friend's number (actually shows up as their name on call display)
- Seeing if someone is screening calls
- Stalking people, obv.
- There's also an option that it will go straight to voicemail and say missed call without them hearing their phone ring.

I just created 10 missed call from mutual friends on one of my friend's phones.

Earlier in this thread someone said to lower the WiFi channel

DavidFongs:

I did some poking around because I'm still having wifi issues on my 3G w/3.0, this is not remotely an isolated occurrence. Some people have had luck with turning off Bluetooth, there's apparently a known conflict that Apple somehow missed. Lowering the channel did not help me.

what app is the best for viewing MMS pictures quickly?

There is no reason a lower channel would be any better than a higher channel. There are 11 channels and assuming everyone uses channels 1, 6, or 11 you will only have packet collision with your channel. So if you live in an apartment building and everyone's router is set to channel 1, then if you switch to 6 or 11 they would both be an improvement. If there is an equal distribution among the 3 options, it doesn't matter which one you are on. I don't know one, but I would not be surprised if there was a program that told you the networks you can see with the channel they are using.

Went ahead and did the jailbreak, just googled for instructions and used redsn0w. Super easy and then just resynced my settings. Loving this so far especially being able to use Pandora with backgrounder. So far I am using the following jailbroken apps:

AptBackup
Backgrounder
Five Icon Dock
Flashlight
LiveClock
SBSettings
Tricker ThreeG
WeatherIcon
WinterBoard
xGPS

I am really hoping they get the app that forces the browser to always go to full websites rather than mobile working.

Anyone with any other jailbreak app recommendations would be appreciated. I think I want to get one of the apps allowing sms replies in app, but am wondering if I should pay for iRealSms or BiteSMS or if there is something free that would work as well. I don't need a ton of added functionality, no MMS, etc., just would like to be able to reply without exiting apps.

Edit: Also thinking I should purchase intelliscreen. Anyone think I should try any free alternative before doing so?

WifiTrak does just that... $.99 on the app store. Shows MAC Address, Channel, Strength Noise and Authentication.

That could be true, I just know I had to change channels to get any connection with an Apple router.

Does anyone know how to display a saved wifi network password? I have wifi at work with the pw saved on my iPod. I can't remember it now and I want to use it on my iPhone.

Today, I decide that I've got to have the 3gs. I decided that I am willing to pay the $399 for the 16gb. I have the 3g and got it last 7/30. I go into the AT&T store and mess around with it and love it. It's so much faster than the 3g.

I go to the salesman, tell him that I am ready to buy and he tells me that I am going to have to pay $599. I told him that there was not a chance in hell that I would pay that and asked him and another employee who gets the $399/$499 deal? Neither one could tell me the answer.

I go home and call AT&T's customer service and get a lady who tells me that I am eligible for the $399 price and that I was given bad info at the store. She said that she was going to note my account that I was eligible and that they would see this at AT&T and it would override anything else they told me.

A few hours later, I called AT&T customer service back to see if Apple would have the same info that AT&T would have. I would prefer to buy the phone at the Apple store. She then proceeded to tell me that the earlier CS rep had given me the wrong info and that I was unable to get the phone for $399 but would have to pay $599. She then proceeded to tell me that how long you've had an iPhone has no bearing on what price you get. I then asked to speak with a supervisor who basically told me that I was screwed until 12/31. He couldn't tell me how someone would get the $399/$499 price though.

I hate AT&T.

i had something similar happen to me. i wanted to find out why i wasn't eligible for a new phone since the last time i used the upgrade pricing was more than 2 years ago (i paid full price for the iphone 3g last year - 499 for the 16gb).

turns out that there are THREE (3) tiers of pricing.

1) the subsidized pricing (the 199/299 price points) that apply to new customers and people who last got a subsidized phone 2 or more years ago and qualify.

2) the "early" subsidized pricing of 399/499 that applies to current att customers who want to get somewhat subsidized pricing. this means that you either add two years to your contract or a new two years starts right then, i'm not really sure.

see, the thing is, i though that tier 2 was the full price, but it's not. it's "early" upgrade pricing. if you don't want to be stuck to a contract or use subsidized pricing, then you have to use tier 3.

3) the "full" price of 599/699 or whatever it is. **** that ****.

yeah it's confusing and i was mad cause i was led to believe that i was paying the full price and could get upgrade pricing whenever i wanted, when in reality i was getting the "early" upgrade pricing.

but the att store i went to told me i could get the 399/499 price, i would just have to start a new two years or get two more years or something like that. i forget exactly.
