I'm not sure what the policy with all providers is, but I believe Bell would let me change mine freely; however, I had to wait 3 months or so if I wanted to downgrade to a plan costing less.

Is it possible to move music and stuff on and off an iphone with windows explorer or do I have to use itunes?
01-05-2010 , 03:33 PM
PS, Try a program called diskaid which let's you access, drag and drop files to/from your iPhone. Not sure if it will work with music though.

Edit: googling it seems to indicate it can transfer music as well, though not positive.

A case or just something to protect it from scratches? I'm really impressed with the invisible shield, it's super thin but is impossible to scratch/dent.

How hard is it to wrap your phone with that stuff? like do you get air bubbles and stuff?

I have a question about iTunes..I still get confused using it.

I had songs on my iPhone and formatted my PC so now that iTunes is reinstalled and there are no songs on my iTunes other than say 10 new ones. If I sync now, will there only be those 10 new songs on my phone and the ones currently on the phone will be gone? I hate how Apple does this...why not be able to add/delete songs like a regular Mp3 player?

And what if I want to remove apps from my iPhone? They are not showing in the newly installed iTunes for me to select what I want to keep or delete.

just to expand on this, it's because there is moisture in the headphone jack and your phone thinks you have a headset plugged in. Getting it dry is the way to fix it.

what do you guys think about buying an unlocked iphone via ebay or another online site?

Anything look shady in this deal: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Apple-iPhone-3GS-...#ht_570wt_1165

It's quite easy if you order it online as it comes with a bottle of solution and a squeegee. The solution makes it somewhat easy to move around and the squeegee lets you push out all the air bubbles. Any small air bubbles disappear in a couple days.

no experience as a buyer, but i've sold my iphone 3g on ebay right before i upgraded my plan to a 3gs. i made a post almost exactly like yours, and got a legit buyer (verified and paid through paypal) within 3 hours. i didn't scam the guy if that's what you are asking, but to me it seems the marketplace has a very decent percentage of legit offers. i've heard of a few scams, but nothing which i'd actually be fooled into.

The back can be sort of a bitch, but the front is very easy. No air bubbles, but I did trim some of the corners that peeled back from normal wear in my pocket. Overall, I do love it though. Keep it clean and scratch free without altering the aesthetics. Although you do lose the impact protection a case brings.

I would just buy the front one. The back is a pain in the ass, and I keep having to trim it as well.

Skype VOIP won't work over 3G (FWIW, texting will) unless you jailbreak your iPhone and download a program from Cydia that allows Skype to work over 3G. Then, as Skype doesn't yet have push notification, you'll have to install Backgrounder and keep Skype running if you wish to receive incoming calls (I tried it....incoming calls will ring through).

lol what?

Bell and Telus are both on 3G+ already, which gives you data speeds of up to 21Mbps compared to 3G (Rogers) which only offers 1.4Mbps or something around there. Mind you, it doesn't matter with the iPhone right now because you will still only get 3G speeds. Wait until the next iPhone is released which will probably be compatible with 3G+.

If I weren't stuck with Rogers I would definitely go with Telus or Bell. They will probably merge in the next 2 years anyways.

The 3g restriction changed a few months ago.

Cool. About time. Did Skype make the change, though? I got an error message rather recently.

So I have finally jailbroken my phone. Seems pretty cool so far. I have a 3GS which I purchased about 8-10 months ago new.

I went to my friends house, and he updated my phone from 3.0 (lol, i only use wall charger and never really sync with iTunes) to 3.1.2. He then used blackra1n to "make it rain" which apparently jailbroke my phone. Since then, I have downloaded Cydia and Winterboard. I have made a couple minor modifications with Winterboard, nothing really cool like I have seen C-Dog post in the past.

Note: my friend did this on a PC, at home I only have a Mac.

With that said, the primary reason I want to jb is because of tethering. I live in the boonies, and would like to have a backup internet connection if I am playing poker and the connection at my house cuts out (this is relatively common). What app do I install for that? I am also interested in 3G tricker for Skype usage.

A few questions:

On the Cydia homepage, there is a link stating "Updating to 3.1.2? Read This". This update says "if you upgrage to 3.1.2 without using PwnageTool to do so you will not be able to unlock your phone at this time, and maybe forever after." I suppose unlock must mean something different, because mine is on 3.1.2 and it is jailbroken.... Does anyone have any comments about this? I have a feeling my friend may not have known exactly what he was doing when he installed this.

Am I correct in thinking that to restore my phone I plug it into my computer, start iTunes, and click the "Restore" option? Is that all there is to it?

Cydia has free packages it recommends, such as dTunes, Cycorder (I have a 3GS though), and MxTube. Are you guys big fans of these? dTunes in particular sounds interesting, but I'm not quite sure what it does.

Any advice on how to handle syncing my phone with iTunes on my home mac? Anything different to do?

If you have any other general comments, they are appreciated. Thanks!!

BTW, nice post Ash17.

Google enable tethering on 3.1.2. There's actually a source file you can add so that you can enable tethering without any 3rd party software. You turn it on/off from the settings menu using either bluetooth or usb connection.

Since your phone is several months old, it doesn't have the new bootrom that is giving people issues, so I don't see any issues with you being able to unlock it. I recommend using blacksn0w in conjunction with blackra1n to unlock the phone (blacksn0w is the one for unlocking in particular)

Mxtube is a nice app, but yourtube is definitely worth the price. It lets you download videos straight from the youtube app on the phone. Mxtube is a separate program in which you have to search for the vid and then download it. It's also outdated, with the author noting no more updates will be coming, and has some stability issues.

I don't know about a mac, but it's a nice idea to sync every once in a while and use apps like app backup (app store app backups) and apt backup (cydia app backups) and sync these every once in a while in case you need to restore.
